Rating: Summary: Great for Absolute Beginners! Review: I was only 10 years old when my dad got this for me for my birthday. Before this, I had just done card based programs, and even those I didn't understand well. I read this book and accually liked it! This is a great book for anyone who has absolutly no experience. If you already know how to program in a different lauguage, this might be kind of dull but it was great for me!
Rating: Summary: Excellent ! Buy this book and you won't be dissapointed Review: The reviews here are spot-on! If you have been trying to get started in programming but just can't get off the ground, this is the book for you. Not only will you get through it, but you will have fun! I can't put this book down, and when I started I didn't know the first thing about C or programming.
Rating: Summary: Easily Understanding Review: Great book for starters. this is the first book I have read on C. I had no problem understanding anything Greg Perry wrote. This guy has a sence of humor too, which makes the book all the better. Every chapter comes with C source code that shows you how you would use what he just taught you. This book is easily read. It's just soooo easy to understand. Even if you want to learn just a little about C you should read this book.
Rating: Summary: Greg Perry where have you been when I needed JAVA Review: This book is just great for beginners or someone like me who has started learning programming since many years ago but always got stuck on Chapter 8 on some ... technicality or example that made absolutely no sense to you? Or have you ever read a programming book and went through the sample code just thinking:"When the heck am I gonna use this ..., or What real life program usability does this have?" It is not going to happen to you in this book.I just wish Greg Perry had the same style book on JAVA so I could move on to doing more practicle things with Java since I would understand the basics from Mr.Perry.
Rating: Summary: Well made and weakly written Review: I knew C from long time ago, but needed to refresh my memory. So I went through this book and, telling the truth, I accieved my goals. I was able to easily skip through the chapters and find what i needed leaving behind what I already knew. But, I think if a real "beginner" gets onto it, there will be some difficulties learning from zero. Although, the very elementary thing were written well, book itself is a little bit boring and requires a bit of patience to finish it all. Again, easily skipped - rare for other books. Maxim Maletsky
Rating: Summary: Great as an introduction... Review: For those who have never programmed before this is a great way to gently ease yourself into C programming. This book will completely explain all of the very basic concepts that you need to know. But you have to realize that to write any kind of meaningful programs you'll need more than the info contained in this very introductory book. This book would go good followed by the K&R book.
Rating: Summary: Not worth reading Review: This book does not worth [the price]. It's very long and has very basic c stuff. The whole book could be written in 10 pages. I recommend the C book by Brian Kernighan.
Rating: Summary: I ordered three... Review: I finally bought this book after reading the reviews for the last year. I gave it to my Linux Administrator and told him to read it as an assignment. He called after a couple of hours into it and said he couldn't put it down and that it was the best computer book he had ever read. He also mentioned that he had tried to learn C from other books and did not get anywhere. Similar story to many of the other stories... I went a head and ordered another one for me and have read several chapters. I must agree that after trying to learn programming from Beginner Python books and PHP books that this whole programming thing started to fall into place. The author really does do a good job at explaining things. The reviews are accurate...and not staged like I thought they may be. I also ordered a 3rd book for a 13-year-old boy who wants to learn how to be a web programmer with PHP and MySQL. I am starting him off with this book first because it will give him the foundation he needs to move into PHP and other languages. I wish other books were written this well. The author is an excellent teacher. Go ahead and get it. You'll be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: Buy this Book! Review: This book is a godsend. I have tried approximately six books to learn C and all attempts failed. Why? For some reason it acted as if i knew a lot of stuff immediately. Now granted, I am very proficient with Pcs (i build them) and i know how to use Visual Basic to an extent...however I am clueless when i open up VC++. I am about 1/3 of the way and i ahve learned so much already. I seriousley reccomend people to read this book, because if you understand C alright and are shaky at certain areas, then this book will set a strong foundation. Read it! :)
Rating: Summary: A Must-Have for Novice C Programmers Review: This book is an absolute must for anyone considering approaching C programming on their own. It is well written, illustrated, organized, and covers the most basic elements of the language. This is an ideal book for building a foundation on which to develop your knowledge of C. I would give this book 10 stars if I could.
