Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Who edited this junk Review: Que books usually excel by providing a well-organized presentation with a good ratio of pictures to useful text. This book is an exception. VFP is an object-oriented language (if you don't know what that means skip down to my last paragraph) but the introduction to OOP begins on page 420. That does not stop the authors from discussing methods and properties at length in the first several hundred pages of the book. This will destroy people who have not worked in other OO languages. People who have worked in other OO languages will crave the OO details instead of procedural code with different syntaxes for doing the same thing. The sample code snippets are terrible in that they include syntax and semantics that have not been explained. As far as I can tell there is no online version of the code or the book. It is even worse than this because there are examples using databases and files that are not provided or described anywhere in the book. There are large sections of the book that are totally repetitive. Other sections that are totally worthless provide cheerleading and saying things like, "Your use of the Project Manager will depend on your programming experience, your interest and your needs." (Very useful information isn't it). Spend your money on Hentzenwerke books instead. They are wordy but not junk.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Using Visual Foxpro 6 Review: There's only one word to describe this book. BAD! A beginner will never learn much because the examples, at least in the beginning of the book, don't relate to anything. If you don't know foxpro code, you just copy routines that are meaningless as there is no explanation of the code. I could rant and rave for a long time, however, all I'm saying is this is a very poor book that does not even have a listing of the foxpro commands so you can check up what the code is. Don't waste your time or your money.

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A helpful book only if you take time to read it Review: This book attempts to explain Foxpro from the ground-level up. You must read it chapter by chapter and study the example programs (not included with the book). If you have the time and patience then you will definitely master Foxpro.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Anything is better than this book. Review: This book is so disjointed that it was absolutely useless as a guide to learning FoxPro. Okay, I did learn something but the payoff for the hours wasted reading this book was minimal. Even after mastering some of the concepts the layout made for a horrible reference. Do not buy this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent Book Review: This book proves that online buying with associated reader reviews is not necessarily effective! I was put off buying this book through Amazon by the reviews. When I saw it in a book shop I immediately realized that it is the best book on VFP 6.0 that I have seen. It is consistently easy to read and informative. I have been programming in Foxpro and VFP for many years and feel that this book has the breadth of coverage to enable me to fill in many of the holes in my knowledge. I think that some of the other reviewers who gave a bad rating were new to VFP. They should realize that VFP is not a beginners database product and a book of this breadth of coverage cannot hope to satisfy a beginner to VFP.

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: sure map to nowhere Review: This book was the dessapointment of the year, spent som many worthless pages in topics that I could care less. like espending 18 pages in naming conventions and only 5 if the very most inportant aspect of any visual program , The Form. It was a big waste of money , I am trying to sell the book as a used now . Question to the author. beside write nonsense book , Have you ever write a real work business application program?
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: !!! Don't Buy This Book !!! Review: This book will not get you up to speed on using VFP 6.0. It skips around and wanders off during it's explanation of things and in the end you get nothing out of the attempted explanations. In addition, it has typos that are not spelling typos, but actual command typos, further confusing you more than you are already due to the way this book is written. I'm calling Amazon to see if I can still return it.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Have a glance at its contents first before you buy one Review: This is an introductory book and definitely not a complete reference book on your desktop. I know the programming under Foxpro for DOS but is completely new to Visual programming. This book would be good enough as your first guide to VFP. All subjects are covered at basic level. So, look for other detailed references if you want to be a killer in VFP.
