Summary: Highly Recommended
Review: If you are a VB/VBA developer you already know the names Ken Getz and Paul Sheriff. If you've been at it a while, you probably already have 'borrowed' some of their code for your own applications.

"ASP.Net Developer's JumpStart" is a good solid reference and "how to" manual focused on the Visual Basic approach to ASP.Net. VBers will be immediately comfortable with the straight foreword style, simple examples and (refreshing) the VB style naming conventions.

If your heritage is a case sensitive language (where Book and book are two different things), if you like to see lots of curly braces and overworked punctuation, then you really need this book to see how easy it is for the rest of us.

Summary: Perfect
Review: It's really a very very useful tool for the people who want to master ASP.NET through specific examples. The book works like you have a live teacher who understands your thoughts and questions. The writting is extremely clear and focuses on what you expect to learn. I know Ken from the past (I own all Acces Dev. Hand Book series) and Paul from Access VB Adv. Mag. Here simply they continue a successful tradition. Congratualtions!

Summary: SAMPLES DONT WORK
Review: The book looks great, however when you download the samples and install everything, you get errors, and errors, If you write them and ask for help, you will lose your time. I prefer use CD ROM next time.

Summary: Very Usefull book
Review: The only book that I found whit examples and steps to use whit Visual Studio.net, They don't make you waste your time talking about the future of .net, they teaches you how to implement solutions using your mouse and code whit VS.net. No CD Room you must go the their website,,,,

Summary: Good for people who have programmed before.
Review: The thing that I like most about this book is that it does not even try to teach you everything about using Visual Basic .NET. He gives a brief introduction, assuming that you have written a Visual Basic 6 program. The majority of the book discusses an example application.

Get this book to get your feet wet in .NET. Then purchase other books to get more details.

Summary: Great book to start ASP.NET with VB.NET
Review: This book did a great job of covering the various topics required when building a web application. I did find that this book took me longer to go thru than other beginning ASP.NET books because of the use of Visual Studio.NET within all the chapters, it shows off many of the VS.NET tools which I had not used as much in other books.

One of the main things I like about this book is the perspective in which the authors deliver the content. For example the authors will show you how to generate controls at design time with minimal code and effort, then they will show you their preferred way of generating controls; manually, with a bit more code for you to write but more efficient. The way any web developer would do it. The authors don't just take Microsoft heresy; they give you best practices from their experience.

There were some typos but nothing unbearable.
Tons of source code available, and a complete version of the site you will build.

Overall this was a great book, I look forward to other books by the same authors.

Summary: Clear and Concise!
Review: This book is designed for developers who want to create real world business applications that take advantage of many new capabilities provided by the .NET platform. The book will guide you step-by-step to building a web application using ASP.NET, SQL Server, ADO.NET, Web Forms, and Web Services.

Whether or not you have some previous web programming experience, you will get alot out of this book. To get the most out of the book it is recommended that you have some previous programming experience in either Visual Basic 6 or VB.NET, however it is not required. It is also recommended that you have some familiarity with relational databases, such as Access or SQL Server.

The book is divided into four parts. Part one provides an introduction to ASP.NET and the .NET Framework. Part 2 covers data handling using ADO.NET, Web Forms, stored procedures, and other data handling tools. Part three teaches some additional web development techniques. You will learn how to use Crystal Reports to display information from a database, create user controls, state management, web security, and how to create mobile web applications. Finally, Part four shows how to create and consume XML Web Services.

I found the book extremely easy to read and understand. After reading the book and completing the ASP.NET sample application, you will have the knowledge and confidence to begin building your own ASP.NET web applications.

Summary: Look before you leap
Review: This book was very disappointing. Much like the title says, this book is a jumpstart. A jump into ASP.net but you the reader better start MSDN to look up fixes and explanations of best practices. I have been using asp.net for 3 months and was looking for a book that would help me establish good coding techniques and explain the Microsoft recommended ways of using this new technology. This book is not it. I can say that the guy on the cover is how I felt after reading this book, and it was a bad landing.

Try reading Microsoft Asp.Net Step by Step instead.
