Rating: Summary: Four exams down - one to go Review: This book got me ready for the exams. I have passed each one the first time.
Rating: Summary: Good review book Review: A well rounded book, but it doesn't give you much hands on practice. Good coverage of Forms. The lacking part of this book is that it doesn't provide you the Sql file, so it hard to do hands on practice. CD that comes with it has the code, but you can't do much with it as the underlying tables are missing.
Rating: Summary: Procedure Builder - Great Coverage Review: This is the best coverage I've ever seen on Procedure Builder - I used to hate that tool, but after reading this book, I'll reconsider.
Rating: Summary: Best book on Forms and Reports on the market Review: I have looked through ALL of the other books on Developer, Forms, and Reports. This one gives you what you need the most: immediate explanations of how to do specific tasks, with no "filler" to waste time. This is the best book investment I've made in a long time.
Rating: Summary: You'll be cranking out forms and reports in no time Review: This book gives the best explanation I've seen of Form Builder, Report Builder, and the reasons to use the Project Builder. Two big thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: It is good to read this book. Review: I am very glad to see such a book available for preparing for Oracle certification tests. It is easy to read and you can know most of the stuff required by the tests in a very short time. However, you can not expect to pass the tests with this book only.
Rating: Summary: Good solid piece of work Review: I looked through the Developer Handbook and was thoroughly unimpressed. I do not plan to get certified. I just wanted a decent training manual to learn Developer Forms and Reports. I bought the Developer Exam Guide and it is working great. No BS, just good solid information with no wasted time.
Rating: Summary: I passed two tests in one day because of this book Review: When I found out there was going to be a Exam Guide for Developer/2000, I ordered it before it was even released. I've had the book for two weeks now, and have gone through all the chapters on Forms. (I've already taken the PL/SQL test.) This week I took both Forms tests, and passed them with flying colors. I've been building systems with Developer for over a year, but there's no way I would have passed the tests if I'd taken them two weeks ago. There were things in the program that I hadn't used, that I needed to know about. This book brought me up to speed fast. Even better, I used two tips from the book on a Developer-based client/server system I built for my company, and they cut transaction time by 36%. Now I'm looking forward to the chapters on Reports.
Rating: Summary: A Developer/2000 book with "meat"--at last! Review: I've been looking for a long time for a book that covers Developer/2000 really well, with detailed content and plenty of examples. Finally, one has come out. I got this book and can't believe how much information it covers--and really teaches, not just talks about. Way to go, Oracle Press!
Rating: Summary: Worth the price for the Developer/2000 chapters alone Review: This book does an "OK" job of covering the two SQL exams in Developer/2000's five-exam gauntlet. But I needed to use Oracle Press's PL/SQL Programming book to learn about some things that aren't covered in this book's SQL chapters. That isn't a big deal...every developer I know has the PL/SQL Programming book anyway. Where the Application Developer Exam Guide shines is it's chapters on Developer/2000. It succeeds in giving the "big picture" of how Developer/2000's various parts fit together, while still presenting all the details accurately. Those chapters alone rate the book five stars. Before buying this book, I had already read the Developer documentation (almost useless), Oracle Press's Developer Handbook (bizarre and unfocused), and a book from Prentice-Hall (all I can say is "eh"). It wasn't until I read this Exam Guide's chapters on Developer/2000 that it all came together and I understood what was really going on. If I had started with it, I would have saved a lot of time. Get this book and the PL/SQL Programming book, and you will have ALL the information you need to become OCP-certified. If you already know SQL and want to learn about Developer/2000, this book has the stuff you need to know.
