Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: Very Good Overview of Oracle. I am missing pages 107 to 157 in the hard copy. So, check your book first to see if chapters 3 & 4 are "seamless".
Rating: Summary: SQL Script is on the CD-ROM Review: I've received a couple of emails from people concerned about the "missing" script for the sample tables in this book. While the script's .sql file was, in fact, accidentally omitted from the first printing of the book, the script is still on the CD-ROM--just in a different form. The entire book's text is on the CD-ROM, so all you need to do is point your browser to the appropriate chapter on the CD-ROM, and viola! There's the script, as part of the text. You just copy it from your browser window, and paste it into either SQL*Plus or your favorite editor. Then you're on your way.
Rating: Summary: Increase your chances with this book ! Review: If you are planning to become an OCP, you need this book. If you want to become a good application developer, you need this book. buying this book will increase your chances of passing the OCP test because it tells you what oracle expects you to know. Even if you have experience, you might not use everything offered in oracle. Oracle lists all the subjects covered on the test and this books touches each one but it might miss some parts since oracle adds new questions so often, but you will have most of the information you need (95%). But this book will really help you pass but you need a little experience along with it. I actually use this as a reference and I am learning a lot more than any other book out there. You should create your own sample database so you could use your own creativity, and that is the ultimate experience, looking at sample code is easy--making your own to enforce business rules is what you need to do to become a good application developer. The sample test questions are good but on the real test there are more scenario type questions on it. Those questions will help you understand and learn oracle features but download the assesment test from the oracle website for more of a real feel--it's free. Some of those questions are similiar to the real one, just be prepared for other types. This guide is not just to pass the ocp tests, but is also a good reference. You should have other books as well, i recomend Oracle the complete reference and pl/sql programming-both from the oracle press. These books are all you need to make robust applications.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book on D2K to date and perfect OCP study guide! Review: This book got me through all 5 Developer 2000 tests with results over 90% (STS tests were also very helpful). Money that were very well spent!
Rating: Summary: WELL WORTH THE PRICE Review: Covers everything from soup to nuts. The PL/SQL chapters still contain the same dumb mistakes from Couchman's DBA Exam Guide, but there are many other books that cover PL/SQL. This book's unique offering is its thorough treatment of Developer/2000 topics. No other Developer/2000 book covers the Developer-specific topics like this one does. (I know, I've bought 'em all.) This is the only one you really need.I'm especially impressed by the coverage of advanced Form Builder topics. The book goes to great lengths to define how functions are grouped logically. This has saved me a lot of time. George M. Estes
Rating: Summary: Its A Complete Reference For Oracle App Developer Exam Review: The book is excellent if you are already working in Oracle from last couple of years. Book gives you the idea of Oracle exam trend , type of questions and exact topics to be covered.
Rating: Summary: Thank you for your consideration Review: No book can replace experience, nor should it. But awell-written book can save you a lot of time and trouble by focusingon exactly what you want to learn, covering the stated scope thoroughly, and tipping you to the workarounds for problems you won't find mentioned in the documentation. Our goal with this book has been to provide the most complete single source of information on creating applications with Oracle Developer/2000. We used the framework of the Oracle Certified Professional Application Developer certification to accomplish this. It is our belief that if you learn what is in this book to the point that you feel comfortable answering all of the exercises and chapter questions it contains, you will be very well equipped to succeed in the OCP Application Developer exams. Just as importantly, you will have a rich foundation of skills you can apply to any project using Developer/2000. We have tried our best to produce a work that is error-free, but with 1350 pages to watch, a few mistakes slipped through in the first edition. Oracle Press plans to place errata for its books on its web site at Osborne.com. Until that time, readers can get the the latest errata by writing us at databasedude@netscape.net and jcouchman@mindspring.com. Feel free to contact us with questions and suggestions, as well...I guarantee they will be taken into consideration for the next edition. Enjoy the book. And imagine how good it will feel to have all five of those exams under your belt, and "Oracle Certified Professional" on your resume!
Rating: Summary: To the readers of the Application Developer Exam Guide Review: First, thank you for your feedback on this book. There is a script missing from the CD-ROM related to Forms development. To download the script, you can go to the ExamPilot.Com website, at http://www.exampilot.com. You will also find any miscellaneous errata corrections that turn up on that site, as well as complementary services to help you better prepare for the OCP Developer track exams. Thanks again, and good luck with OCP.
Rating: Summary: This book is loaded with information !! Review: To clear the OCP papers you need two things - loads of information & hands on practice. This book is really a big help with the 'Information' part - it is loaded with information. However, it is not fully equipped to provide hands-on practice.
