Rating: Summary: Great Study Guide Review: You won't learn Oracle from this book, but you'll definitely know what to expect on the OCP exams. I've been an Oracle professional since 1986, and found this helpful to know what to expect on the actual exams. The sample questions and answers help get you focused on what you need to know.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I want to say that this book is a must to get certified by Oracle. This week I passed the last exam (the Report one), and I can say that without this book you will never certify. I have finished all the five exams (from the first time-Thanks God) using this book as my main study tool (along with the Sideris manuals as a minor references). I can say that this exam guide will cover %95 of the material tested in exam 3&4 (Forms), 80% of exam 5 (Reports-which in my opinion is the most difficult), 80% of exam 2 (procedure features), and 90% of exam 1. As it is clear from this figure the material covered will help you pass all exams. For the report exam I think you should have supplementary material (like Sideris) for two topics tested: Matrix report and lexical parameters) but even without that you can pass the exam. In short, buy this book if you want to be OCP-Application Developer. I highly recommend it. Excellent work by Oracle Press.
Rating: Summary: Best Developer 2000 book available Review: I bought 3 other Oracle Developer books before this one. Wasn't all that happy with any of them. Then I bought this, and finally Developer makes sense. The Forms program is pretty easy when it's explained logically. I bought copies for the rest of my development staff, and productivity has gone up about 25%. That's a heck of a return on investment.
Rating: Summary: Strong method of preparing for OCP Exams Review: It is this simple: Get this book. Do all of the exercises. Do them again. Then go and pass the exams. That is how straightforward it will be if you work through the exercises this book provides. An excellent resource.
Rating: Summary: I passed 5 out of 5 exams - thanks to this book! Review: Phew! The last OCP exam is behind me now, and I passed all 5 on the first try. I didn't even know Developer before buying this book! Now I'm in a new job building Developer forms and reports. For the SQL exams, I also bought Oracle Press's PL/SQL Handbook. Didn't need any help in the Forms exams - everything was covered in the book - but for the Reports exam I had to get the sample database from the author (jcouchman@mindspring.com). I also got an errata list from the other author (databasedude@netscape.net) that was helpful. Best investment I've made in a LONG time!
Rating: Summary: .. a bit out dated .. Review: Overall, the book does do a good job on form explaination and how to create forms and the relationship between properties and other little goodies within Oracle. However, I think the whole empahsis and the focus of the book on what to conecntrate on the exams and all the suggestions and ideas given are out of date. I just did my first form exam and sad to say, it was a digusting result. This is not my first exam and I have passed on the first one easily. What is worse is that, even KNOWING the questions now - I still can NOT find anything concerning those questions in the book. All those that wrote rave reviews on the book, I am curious as to know their background with Oracle. The exams in the CD was, I hate to say this, a big joke. I was expecting to be fresh questions that will make you rethink and all, but instead, were questions straight out from the book's chapter questions. The book is GOOD, don't get me wrong, but those that says the books is the be all and end all for passing the exams are not entirely right.
Rating: Summary: A must HAVE book for any oracle developer Review: For all those planning on building an application using oracle developer and/or especially planning on becoming an OCP, this is a MUST have book ! There are only a few books that cover oracle developer and i'm glad that out of those few, there is a great one like this. I don't think anyone will complain about the forms tutorial because it's so well written. Even though you have experience in building forms before, this book shows how to do things in different ways, ways that are probably easier and more efficient. The sql and pl/sql does pretty good job but you should read another book along with this one. For the forms, this is all you need ... guaranteed. The reports is probably the hardest test so you should read this book and do a lot of practice reports. I just passed all 5 test and i don't believe i would of done as well without this book.
Rating: Summary: Don't try the exam without this book. Review: This book is invaluable material for the OCP exam. The sections on developer/2000 are very clear and actually give you practical knowledge of the product which is invaluable to the exam. It does however need more complex scenarios like those tested on the exam. While giving you good basics, it is not as detailed in complex concepts as you may require for the exam. You should also get PL/SQL Programming, which is probably the best book available on the topic. I read both books and had a perfect score on the exam (50/50). I do recommend this guide to anyone interested in getting OCP. It covers the curriculum extensively. This exam guide is certainly worth your money and more.
Rating: Summary: Must have book for Oracle Application Developers Review: Hello Oracle developers......... Must have book for all developer planning on or already using Oracle developer/2000. This book mostly covers PL/SQL, using PL/SQL in developer/2000 forms and reports. Good examples, well put together, very helpful Oracle practise test available on the CD-ROM. I find this book a best buy for someone planning on becoming an Oracle Certified Professional.
Rating: Summary: Great hands on exercises Review: It took me a while to work through this book, and that's a compliment. The reason was because it has so many hands on exercises. Every new technique has one or two exercises you can work through to see how it works, and to get it out of "theory" and into "experience". Good stuff! Using this book as a guide, I passed all five exams.
