Rating: Summary: It is from the GROUND UP Review: I am a complete idiot on vb programming , don't know anything about code , etc . I tried read the VB 6 help start file and get lost with it . After reading a first 4 chapters of this book, everything is clearing out - other than easy, it really interests reader to continue reading - But There are several flaws I found, like incorrect placement of some features , but it's not that important, you will find those out after a little while
Rating: Summary: An excellent introduction to VB Review: The book is very well written and paced perfectly. I have also got a couple other books about beginning VB but find them a bit of a chore to work through. This book, however has been informative and kept my attention. Combine this with the O'Reilly Vb & VBA book for a great learning/reference. 4 stars is my "excellent" rating in case something even better comes out. It would have to be an outstanding book to really beat this one, though.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ for all beginers Review: I am only into the first few chapters and already I like this book. The concepts are clearly explained and I am actually able to follow the examples and understand what is going on. I definitely recommend this book to other beginners.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Beginner Text!! Review: Stop! Your search is over! Best beginner text I have ever read (and I've read quite a few). This is the one, end of story! You won't be sorry. Trust me!!!!
Rating: Summary: Very Well Done Review: I'm very pleased with the purchase of this book. If you read enough "beginner's" books, you eventually become better and better but, if you read this one amongst amongst your first few selections, you can save some time. I found this book amongst the better "beginner's" books and, I feel I'm armed with enough knowledge now to move onto the more advanced books. Well done Gary Cornell, this book is invaluable to beginners and, I will recommend it to my friends and programming peers. A++ Note: (This is not a plug) This title and Learn to Program With Visual Basic 6 - John SMiley are EXCELLENT starter books......
Rating: Summary: One of the Greats Review: Gary Cornell has done what I thought impossible. Write a textbook that actually explains the basics but doesnot just leave you there. It goes one through the intermediate level as well. He goes very indepth with his book leaving nothing to question. I have even emailed him with questions about the book and recieved prompt responces. He not only knows his craft but actually cares about what he teaches. You can tell it by the way he has written his book. This is one of those books that you can actually learn from and later use as a reference. Its rare to find such a book. If you want to learn Visual Basic, this is THE BOOK.
Rating: Summary: Better than an instructor-led course Review: I am currently taking VB in college. I am not a programmer and am only taking the course to satisfy educational requirements. For the past two months I have been completely lost. After struggling with the school textbook, and the Wrox Begining VB 6 book, I read the reviews for this book. I've read only 200 pages and I have learned important things my instructor never told me. Instead of thinking "What does that mean?" after every concept, I catch myself smiling because I've actually learned something I can use! If you have very little programming experience and don't want to waste time, I recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Keep a refrence close at hand... Review: Overall, I liked this book. Gary Cornell doesn't leave out any details that I noticed. However, if you are reading and hit a term you wish to go back and review... Forget it. The index is about useless and unless you remember where in the book you read it, you will not find it again in this book. Grab your reference.
Rating: Summary: This book is WONDERFUL!!! Review: I am currently taking a graduate course for Visual Basic 6.0. The text we are using is ok, but for someone who has no Visual Basic experience this book explains the why's (ex. what is a DIM statement and why do you need one). I recommend this book for anyone who really wants to learn Visual Basic on their own or as a supplement to another book for a course. If I take anymore programming courses I will check to see if Mr. Cornell has written any other books to help me understand that particular language. CUDOS!! Gary Cornell.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I bought this book back in November after buying VB6 and as a newbie to Windows programming and Visual Basic (I programmed in Turbo Pascal and QBasic for DOS) I wanted something that would give me syntax and get me programming quickly. I must say that this book has done it. Shortly after getting the book, I felt comfortable programming in Visual Basic and the book has been a great reference. I am programming a lot of utilities for work, home and the internet and it has been a blast! This book is a 5 star winner!
