Summary: An outstanding Resource
Review: I bought Gary Cornell's book as a beginner, with some basic understanding of how visual basic works. Mr. Cornell's book took me from complete novice level, to lower-intermediate. This is indeed an excellent book to get yourself falmiliarized and experienced with Visual Basic. Sure, some areas needed re-reading, and some parts were just plain unncessesary, but for the price, I have no complaints. I find myself coming back to this book time and time again as a reference material. Its a must have!.

Summary: Great VB6 book
Review: I have this book as a requirement for my advanced VB class and I like it. I provides a great deal of information about VB6 in a clear and well organize form.

Summary: Way to wordy, Way to many pages
Review: The whole binding fell apart, and all the pages are falling out. So now I'm sorting through over a 1,000 pages while simutaneously trying to learn this (...). I think I know why this computer book is so cheap - IT STINKS.

Summary: Get it before it's gone...
Review: This book is a great introduction to VB6. It covers everything you need to know to use VB6 to create your own programs. All of the basics are covered. The IDE is covered along with all the relevant tools. The basic language syntax is also covered so you'll know how to write the code behind the various events. The book has well thought out and thoroughly explained examples, which is very important in my opinion. The book is a good starting point for the beginning VB programmer.

Summary: Not really good Book for learning OO concepts
Review: This book attempts to cover a lot of VB forms kind of stuff but no lacks on coverage of key topics like Object oriented coverage. Now a days most of the Visual basic is used mostly for development of distributed computing and this book doesn't cover that aspect. I won't recommend it for beginners.

Summary: Too many pages
Review: This book attempts to cover a lot of VB forms kind of stuff but lacks coverage of key topics like Object oriented coverage. Its not a good book for beginners too.

Summary: Somewhat Pleased
Review: This is a good teaching book and in general I believe it gave me a good foundation from which to work from. However, the reader should be aware that there seems to be a few code examples that just don't work. Whether its syntax or operator error, it distracts you from your learning curve.

Summary: Book fell apart and has many script errors
Review: I am looking for another book to learn visual basic, besides being poorly constructed I found many script errors that frustrated my learing experience.

Summary: This Book Needs Proofreading!
Review: This book came with the price of an "Intro To VB 6" course I took this summer (2001). I rely on examples to illustrate and clarify text explanation. I had trouble, in many cases, following both the descriptions of VB features and their examples with this book. Many examples had typos and errors in the code. Its a shame! A competent proofreading would have made this book a lot more helpful. Its unfortunate that schools don't do a better job of evaluating textbooks when they select them (for whatever reason?).

Summary: Pretty good for reference, not so good for learning VB....
Review: This book seems to be marketed for those who want to learn Visual Basic, but in reality, I don't think it's well suited for beginners. I was already familiar with Visual Basic 4.0, and when I got Visual Basic 6.0, which dosen't come with any manual at all (other than the online help), I picked up this book to help me with the new features.

I got a fair amount out of it, but there are some deficiencies.

For one, the chapter on File Handling could be better. A lot better. I usually look back to my old VB 4.0 books when I need to look something up on file handling.

The chapter on 'Recursion' is simply bizzare, and I have no idea why it's in the book. Would anyone actually ever use the chapter? Er, not really, unless you want to draw math based graphic patterns.

Which reminds me of the graphics section. It mostly deals with drawing pixel by pixel commands, which generally produces horrible, child like graphics, while the most common form of using graphics in programs, painting, moving and manipulating premade bitmaps is barely touched on.
