Rating: Summary: Brilliant, splendid, awesome.... The only book you want Review: This book is easily read and understood, with good and usefull programs to show the power of the C language. It's also fun. Yes, belive it or not the auther of the book has managed to make learning C fun!
Rating: Summary: Tried the rest? Try the best! Review: After four books on C programming and still pulling my hair out I turned to IDG to teach me. All I have to say is that Gookin has written a book as informative as it is funny. The slow pace makes up for the ease of learning. If you have tried the others and still can't get C figured out I reccommend this book as your first book on the path to C victory.
Rating: Summary: C for Dummies is the best!! Review: I think this is really a great book. Anybody who wants to learn C should get this book. This book contains a lot of neat sample programs to try out, and it is REALLY FUNNY. Gookin cracks a lot of great jokes, and some of the sample programs are reasonably goofy, too. The book also has quizzes and tests, (multiple choice) which are a neat idea. Plus, they help hone your knowledge. I had a great time learning C. This is for people who really want to learn C, and it also assumes you have no previous programming experience, which is a real plus for this book.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Humor and info! Review: This is the best C reference I have ever seen. If you don't know a thing about programming, or if you just need to refresh your memory this book is for you. You also might wan to consider buying vol. 2. (They come in a set)
Rating: Summary: Simple and Easy for someone new to programming Review: This book will help anyone scared of C. Dan did a great job showing you step by step how to write programs, and with alot of humor too. This book is worth every penny. I love it.
Rating: Summary: A Great book from a C author who speaks your language Review: Believe me, i'm not kidding you when i say this is one great book. I've read other C books (learn in 24 hours, 21 days, you name it, i've read it), and about 30 pages into teh book, the examples are 300 lines long and the author has resorted to his usual advanced C programming terminology. Thats when i throw the book down in disgust and give up. Not with this fine book! Dan Gookin's fine knowledge of C, and a sense of humor kept me involved until i finished both volumes. I highly recommmend it!
Rating: Summary: 10 Stars for me! Review: Heck, I am only 12 years old, almost 13, and I understand this book. Dan Gookin is somewhat funny, but his way of teaching C is absolutely simple. If you don't trust me, just look at the other reviews... PS TWO OF THE GREATEST C BOOKS EVER!
Rating: Summary: The best C programming book ever. Review: This book makes C programming so easy a kid can learn it! I know because I'm a kid, and learned it in 4 months! These books explained everything in plain english, and don't expect you to know the language(unless you get Volume 2 first).
Rating: Summary: This book is a must for beginning programmers Review: Dan Gookin is amazing. He presents the C programming language in a humorous yet forward-moving style. if you are a serious person and have no sense of humor, you might want something else, but this book really does make learning C fun. I learned on this book, then bought C for Dummies Volume II. I was very happy with this book, and I highly reccomend it to anyone who wants to learn C.
Rating: Summary: The best book to start programming in C Review: This book makes learning C a breeze. If you have had no prior experience programming then this is the book to get. If you have had some programming experience then this is still the book to get. Gookin explains everything very clearly. He does spend a lot of time up front explaining basic concepts but it does pay off in the long run. I have tried 2 other books on C and none of them made sense til I got this book.
