Summary: Basically just a reprint of the 5 version
Review: Ben is a great teacher and definitely has a way of explaining things so that you can easily grasp the concept but I will be returning my copy of this book for a refund. It is pretty much identical (images and text) to the older 5 version. There has been some new information added in the area of web graphics but most of the new stuff that deals with the upgrades in PS 6.0 can be found online. If you already own Adobe Photoshop 5 Studio Techniques then there is no need to buy this book.

If I was buying this book for the first time then I would agree with the other reviewers and give it a high rating so take this review with a grain of salt.

Summary: Great Book on Technique
Review: Given my experience with the earlier version of this book, "Photoshop 5 Studio Techniques", I decided to order "Photoshop 6 Studio Techniques" as soon as it was available. The decision was a good one. "Photoshop 6 Studio Techniques" is a well written, easily understandable, well illustrated book about Photoshop 6 techniques. It covers material from introducing a user to Photoshop through production techniques for both print and web.

Chapters covering curves, color correction, and channels are worth the price of the book. In addition, the chapters that cover retouching, enhancement, and blending present information that is very useful in day-to-day photo editing.

If you use Photoshop 6, I highly recommend "Photoshop 6 Studio Techniques." The book will help you understand basic and advanced techniques that will give images a professional look.

Summary: The best ... Photoshop book around!!!
Review: I am a second year graphic design student at a tech-college and i must say this book has taught me more about Photoshop than any class I've taken or could take. This book has not only given me a priceless understanding of the application, but it has also given me the skills necessary to take my design to a whole new level. The time saving tips as well as the newly discovered tool capabilities has allowed me to get more done on my school projects. I hope you don't buy the book simply because if we ever compete for the same job my skills will prevail. Thanks Ben !!!!!!!!

Summary: Past Experience
Review: I found Studio Techniques 5.0 extremely valuable in learning to use Photoshop 5.5. I learned more than in any class I took using Classroom in a Book (A book that I found to be a "paint by number" publication). I am purchasing it sight unsean, unusual for me (I normally look at books in bookstores before making my choices here).

Summary: Excellent resource for the new user
Review: I see a lot of complaints from advanced users saying the books is just a re-write of the previous. Well for one thing, there usually are not that many changes from one version of photoshop to the next, and two, they obviously haven't been to Ben Willmore's website since he constantly adds new techniques and tutorials for the experienced user. If you want the best "how to" book for photoshop then look no further. Instead of telling you how he did some complex picture with techno babble, he explains the purpose, history, and the use of all the tools, and this is the most important part, in plain English. Only after he explains how to use the tools does you give some examples of their use. The only thing he assumes is that you have no clue about any of the features and goes into great detail. Ben Willmore is the equivalent to those teachers we all have had now and then that make the process of learning fun and nearly painless.

If you are already an advanced user you'll find very little that is new to you, but if you are a brand new or intermediate then you are missing out on a great resource if you pass this book by.

Summary: Tremendously practical, shines where other books fail
Review: I’ve just received this book from a friend and he knows about my LOVE to Photoshop. So I read some of the pages of this wonderful book and it talks about how to REALLY know Photoshop from A to Z. The book is not like a Step-by-Step Photoshop book I mean this book makes you know everything that you have to know about Photoshop 6 so that you can create everything in you mind and be a CREATIVE designer in a few weeks!
