Rating: Summary: another topseller Review: Alan Carter did it again. According to me, this book is going to be the top selection of MCSE candidates, as the previous NT 4.0 one. The examples were carefully selected to better understand the concepts presented in the book, this book is enough to pass at least 1 or 2 exams, highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Comes up far short of the mark! Review: I agree 100% with the reader from Spain, but I would take away an additional star because of the price. Yes, this book makes an o.k. study guide for Professional and Server, but even then it suffers from some serious flaws.1. Not enough material. The font is huge and the white space is vast making the book seem like a hefty tome, but it's a facade. 2. Very annoying is the repetition of the procedures. In the chapters, Carter walks through the procedure for a particular function, and then for the lab, gives a virtually identical walk-thru. I would have preferred that more detail about the functionality, the differences between various options, and theory be written in the chapter text with the labs focusing on the hands-on procedures for actually performing the functions. The duplication simply wastes space. 3. As previously mentioned, this book might get you through the Prof/Server exams, but it will in no way prepare you to pass the other two core exams. One example is DNS. A full and complete understanding of DNS and the DNS server is vital to administering a Windows 2000 network and Carter gives it very short shrift - sharing a very small chapter with the installation of Active Directory. Because of the superfluous text and non-concise information, I can't even recommend this book to MCSEs who want a guide for the 70-240 exam. Carters NT-4 Core study guide was fantastic. This one is a travesty.
Rating: Summary: Just okay... but it worked for me... Review: I agree, as few can argue, that Carter's NT 4.0 text was the text to use. The 2000 study system, I believed, was lacking specific detail on a few topics. To supplement (or I should say in conjunction with) the text I borrowed a non-production server from work and tried nearly every new feature of the Win2000 OS. I took the 70-240 exam and passed. I also purchased the complete BFQ software 70-240--good buy. I used no other study material. Perhaps Carter too assumes that the reader has experience with NT 4.0. Either way, the book served its purpose. Yes there is repetition--it's called reinforcement. The intro chapters are great, always stating that more detail is to be found in a later chapter. The highlights of what has changed from NT4 to W2K are also a benefit. Not as good as his NT4, but worth while for exam study. Once you pass, get something else for reference and more detail. Remember this is an MCSE study system-not complete coverage of Windows 2000.

Rating: Summary: Look no further Review: I can't rate this book high enough. Alan Carter has simply nailed the entire study guide concept. This book truly has it all, very well written, great index, excellent outlines, great sample questions, great labs, and even a "beach side" exam quizzer. Alan covers all the material very well and adds in his own excellent real world incite and experience. You won't find a better MCSE 2000 book than this one.
Rating: Summary: Best "Getting Started" MCSE Training Book EVER !!! Review: I have been reading this book and completely feel that this is the very best way to learn what's nessesary to pass MCSE certification. This book takes the approach of teaching you the material (as opposed to helping you slide past an exam). This book will help you pass the exam and prepare you for real-world hands on situations that you'll face in the workforce, putting your MCSE to work for you. Read this book first and no doubt you'll be much more prepared to take on individual study books for each exam. This book is the most direct course to successful MCSE study.

Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: I have been using using this book and I already passed exams 210 and 215. Though you will need the MS Resource Kit to pass the exams, this book helps.

Rating: Summary: Informative and easy to read! Review: I have to say, this book is filled up with important information. And it is a very easy to read book. You do not need to take a long break after 10 minutes of reading! You can just flow through the chapters one after another! So, this is a good buy! Not sure if it is the best in the market. I picked up this book right away because I used Alan Carter's books from my Windows NT 4.0 tests and I just love to read his books! Good luck to you all!
