Summary: Fun and easy to follow in a non-threatening context.
Review: Great for beginners! The cartoon characters make it fun and less threatening than the masses of text and no illistrations. My wife loved the book and said it made it all look fun. We are going to use them in our computer learning center for first time computer students.

Summary: Good for Seniors
Review: I bought this book for my mother, who is 76 and very computer-phobic. Having this book helps her believe she actually CAN use the computer!

Summary: It helped a neophyte to computers to understand the process!
Review: I have been using this book for 2 days and already I feel at ease with my new computer. I had a computer (an Amiga) years ago and had no idea how or what I was going to do with the new one my husband had just bought me. I live on Guam and needed immediate support at the house and this book gave and is still giving support to me. I also feel very comfortable with the step-by-step instructions. It is like having your own instructor helping you to discover the computer (and your) ability! I love it!

Summary: The Simplest Teaching Book Out There
Review: I used this book to help some people get acquainted with their computers and to get online. This is a perfect lifeline for anyone just learning about computers and to use as reference. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Impressed
Review: I'm quite impressed and satisfied with this book and with the entire Simplified series. This book presents an excellent introduction to and overview of Microsoft Windows 98. It is very accessible to beginners and provides useful information for more experienced users. For visual learners (like myself), the illustrations are a great help. Related books in the series include More Windows 98, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows Me. Windows 2000 Professional is basically the upgrade from Windows NT - mostly for businesses. Windows Me (for millennium edition) is the upgrade from Windows 98 - it's mostly for home use.

It's challenging to take a complex subject and express it simply, clearly, concisely, and comprehensively. This book meets the challenge.

Other books in the Simplified series are listed on Amazon.com under the author name Ruth Maran. A similar series (which I also enjoy very much) by the same author is the Teach Yourself Visually series.

For further study, I recommend Course Technology: the Shelly Cashman Series; the New Perspectives Series; and the Illustrated Series (I particularly like the Shelly Cashman Series). And, of course, there is Microsoft Press: I like the Step by Step Series and the Running Series.

These books are all available on Amazon.com.

Summary: Hooked on the "Simplified" Series
Review: Who said picture books are only for kids? All the new technology is forcing us to learn a brand new language, brand new culture, brand new way to do things. Who wouldn't be intimidated?

The "Simplified" series helped ease the pain. When Windows 98 came out, I was almost intimidated, until I saw this book. This may be basic for some techies, but this book is a lifesaver. I learned so much, that I am now totally comfortable anytime new software programs are introduced.

By the way, the shelf life is longer than some people think. I've had the book since it first came out, and I still refer to it when other folks come to me for my "expertise". I also have other Simplified books on Office 97, Word, Powerpoint, Creating Web Pages, and the World Wide Web. Other folks consult my "Simplified" library for information rather than struggle with their boring manuals.

I highly recommend this book. When I switch to Office and Windows 2000, I am getting the Simplified book. Can't see me getting any other reference.
