Rating: Summary: Excellent book for rookies to the most experienced. Review: As a mid-level member (6 yrs. experience)of a team that combines over 45 yrs. experience we found this book to be unique in that it's informative for both the rookies on the team and the senior members. Chapters 6 and 11, on JumpStart and Automation were awesome. The Diagnostic, and Backup and restore stuff as well... This book is useful to push the boundries of what we're doing and also as a reference book, and a get-acquinted book. Very well rounded.
Rating: Summary: First sattisfying Solaris admin book Review: Finally they made a propper Solaris admin book, but of course not from Sun. It deals with nearly every topic (even shortly with NIS+, which all other authors avoid,), has a practical approach and realy talks about real life problems and there solutions. Lately I had some printer problems which the book helped me to solve, and this is unusal. I cannot propperly explain why the book is good, but from admin to admin I'd just say, it's the best book so far about this topic.
Rating: Summary: Warning!!!! Written for Solaris 7 or earlier? Review: Good ideas but very dated. Checked the Wiley web site, this site, and everywhere I could to figure out which version of Solaris this book covers. Seems to be Solaris 7 or earlier. Would be nice to see an updated edition (Solaris 8/9) of this book. If it is updated, the synopsis should state which version(s) of Solaris the book references.

Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: Great book that goes straight to the point but not for beginners with no knowledge of unix. Some sections could use a little more examples, but otherwise a super book. Keep one on your shelf!
Rating: Summary: Solaris Admin Answers in a clear and concise format! Review: Having limited development and no unix administration background I was thrown into the fire at a major Health Care Company with another rookie and one mid-level Unix dev/admin type. We hustled to the store and bought four different books. 'Solaris Solution for System Administrators' won out and became the administrative Bible for our project. Covering and providing answers for virtually every scenario we encountered! After returning the other three books and picking up a second copy of this one we're ( ) richer and at the endgame of a very successful project, with a solid foundation to administrate going forward!
Rating: Summary: Solaris Solutions for System Administrators : Time Saving Ti Review: I am relatively new to UNIX administration so I found this book useful as it is an easy read. I already have a few heavy hitting books but I was looking for a compliment to my ever growing library. It gave me a "little of a lot" and that does help me. I don't always want or need super detail (and you can't always cover every persons needs in detail in one book) as sometimes a simple push in the right direction will suffice. I really enjoyed the Exploiting Jumpstart chapter 6 and the Automating Everything...Well Almost! chapter 11.
Rating: Summary: very clear and useful book Review: I consider myself a fairly experienced sys admin, and I picked up a number of useful tips from this book. It also makes a great reference book when I need to review a topic I don't work with frequently. It is an easy and pleasant read. I highly recommend this book to people working with Solaris, or to those with some UNIX background who want to learn more about Solaris.
Rating: Summary: SECOND Edition (2003): Bigger, Better & Solaris 9! Review: I just bought the second edition of this book. I loved the first and learned a lot. This book has a lot of practical information. The second edition covers Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 along with updates on the chapters from the first edition. This is one of my favorite Unix books.
