I do have exeperience working with lot of the things on the exam, but some of the stuff I've never touched. The book really helped me review things I'm familiar with and also to learn the new stuff. The review who said the questions aren't really like the exam is partially right. The questions in the book are harder and they make you think more, which I liked. If you can get most of these right than the questions on the real exam will seem lot easier to you.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Good organiation and well written Review: Like other vendor neutral exams, the Security+ test does not have a lot about installing or configuring specific hardware and software from different manufacturers. Rather, it tests whether you understand how all of these different things work and work together to protect your sytstmes using any vendors products. The test is, however, specific about the diffeent types of attacks and viruses that are out there. The authors of this book do a very good jot of explaining all the differnt aspects, fundamentals, and theory network security as well as the actual threats that do exist out there. This is not an easy thing to do, becasue the exam covers so many differnt things. It doesn't get really deep on any one thing but it does test a little bit of EVERYTHING. I have almost three years of experience in IT and almost a year working more with security. With that exepreice and reading this book, I felt very prepared for the test, and I did pass.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Where did these reviews come from? Review: I also got this book based on the reviews, read it three times and just failed the exam. The questions in this book were not even close to the real exam as the reviews suggest. There are also no fancy diagrams on the test and I found the "DVD training system" usless for exam fucused study. My question, did the people writing the reviews here use a diffrent book to study? I am confused here...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Most complete coverage for test Review: This is the book to use to get in depth coverage of everything that's on the Security+ exam. I read this first and took all the practice tests and then used the passport book for a more quick review the few days before.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Very good security reference Review: While the Security+ exam is considered the entry point for anyone interested in network security, you still need to have knowledge of a wide range of subjects. This Syngress/Shinderbook is a treasure trove of useful and important info on a wide array of security subjects. The chapters on PKI, cryptography, wireless and incident response alone are worth the price of this book. The DVD is a fantastic resource! Bob Shimonksi is a talented and engaging instructor and you'll enjoy the two hours of classroom training he provides for you on the DVD. Read this book, watch the DVD, and you're virtually guaranteed to pass.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Believe the hype! Review: I bought this book based largely on the really good reviews posted here on Amazon. Well, they're right. It covers everything that's on the exam. It's written to the appropriate level of experience of the people who are taking the exam. The practice questions are tough, but good. And, the DVD is actually pretty cool.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great Study Guide Review: I've read countless study guides over the last few years for all the major certs. from Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, etc. And I can honestly say this is really one of the best ones that I've seen. The auhtors have done a really masterful job of covering absolutely everything that is on the exam, but also including the right amount of coverage on things that may not be tested, but you really need to brush up on to understand the stuff that is being tested. I also haven't seen sample question and answer sections as in depth as the ones in this book. If you read all the answer explantions you really begin to understand what the questions are all about, and this helps you that much more for the exam. I also like the idea of having a DVD with the book and them getting all the other stuff that is usually on a CD from the Web site. You just get so much more by doing it this way.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Security+ certififed thanks to this book! Review: I read this book and checked off all the exam objectives as I was going along. Everything from the test was covered in the book. The sample questions helped a lot too. I'm psyched that I passed. Big thanks to the authors!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Covers all objectives and has good questions Review: I read this book all the way through and followed it against the Comptia objectives. It covers everything in good detail so you can pass the test but also so you can understand the topics and use a lot of the methods and tools the authors talk about to secure your network. This is a hard test to study for, because it covers so many different things. This is why I like this book for the test, because it has the right level of coverage on all the objectives. The wireless chapters covers a little more content than is on the exam, but I think this is good becuase a lot of people are still just learning about wireless security so you can't just study the objectives without knowing some of the fundamentals. Also, the authors do a good job of telling you which parts of the wirelss chapter are on the objectives so you know what to study. The practice questions also cover everything on the test and the appendix at the end of the book does a good job of explaining all of the questions and the answers. I also thought the FAQ sections for each chapter were helpful. You can tell from the FAQs that the authors really know what they are writing about. Most of these talk about problems that you would only know about if you had solved them for real.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Right on the mark! Review: Security+ is CompTIA's newest exam, it covers a wide variety of security concepts. Having taken the beta, help tech edit a coupe of books, I thought I had certainly seen about everything relating to the exam. The author(s) and editor(s) of this book have put together some of the best reading on the subject I have seen.In just over 800 pages, the exam, which covers a vast amount of information, is taken apart and pieced together in a logical and well written format. What I found is that the book is written to the level of the intermediate skill set and this make the learning process a bit better. The section on attacks, as well as the wireless section goes beyond the exam objectives; in fact the wireless section could be used for other exams such as CWNA. There is a good flow of information and it is well documented and well organized, each section building on the previous. There are a few well thought out add-ons, such as the exercises, which seem to draw from real life, rather than simulation. Also the exam tips and warnings are very helpful; anyone preparing for the exam should take a close look at these. At the end of each chapter you find a review test of the material, the question are well explained and I was impressed with the FAQ section in each chapter, no other book I have seen has this. Finally there is a DVD with over 2 hours of instructional material. While this could be used as a stand alone tool I found it to be more helpful working with the book. Overall I think this book gives you a very good shot at passing - well done.
