Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Im Security+ certified! Review: Thanks to this book, Im security+ certified. This book does contain a lot of information that isnt on the exam, however much of it will come in handy in my day-to-day job. That said, the book does cover all of the objectives of the exam - and covers them well.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Outstanding Review: This book covered all the objectives very well. There wasnt the usualy 'fluff' you get from other books. This book also included information helpful to real world experiences. Having been in the business for awhile I have seen many books just prepare you for a test and not for real life. I would recommend it to anyone pursuing the Security+ cert. The chapters are laid out very well and overall its easy reading. You cant go wrong with this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Vey detailed and good coverage for exam Review: I looked at a few of the other books and this one in a store before I decided to buy this one online.I got this book because it covers everything on the test and it's got a lot of good detail with exercises, line drawings and screens for a all of the objectives. Some of the others might be good if you want more of an overview type book, but this is the best if you want everything in depth. I also like the questions repeated with all of the answers and explanations in one place in the back of the book. This made it much easier to review all of the questions at once.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This book = passed test Review: I am writing this to inform the 'negative posters' here of comments that your posts here relate to the fact that you think this book is not good advanced security topics like for the CISSP - well I have news for you... this book was made for the SECURITY+ exam, not the CISSP exam - surprise! The Security+ exam is an entry-level cert for security beginners looking to advance to the CISSP, etc next, not the other way around. If you think that this book is lame because you're studying for your CISSP, then your actually just facing reality that the CISSP exam is like 10x harder than this one, and you SHOULD know all this stuff already, so why did you read it anyway, and why would you make ridiculous comments against a book that was written to help you pass an entry level exam? If you are actually using this 'certification study guide' to pass the 'certification exam' then that's why the book is repeats things... to reinforce difficult concepts for newbie's... repetition will also build the concepts up in your head so you can remember them come test time. Also if you follow the actual CompTIA exam objectives online at CompTIA.org, you will see that the actual objectives are repetitive. If you work through this book completely, your guaranteed to pass. For those of you looking for a quick pass and don't want to read a book like this, I suggest not bother taking the exam, and stop slamming the book because you failed. You're only embarrassing yourselves. For those of you serious about taking the exam, then this is what you need to read... from start to finish, and you'll pass - for sure. For the posters who are just 'upset' because they failed... its not the books fault, its yours.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Exc ellent Review: I purchased this book, read it and went through all the questions and passed on the first shot. Plain and simple. Being new to security, this is what I needed to really learn the content. This book did exacly what it said it would do, help you learn some entry level security content, pass the entry level security+ exam from comptia, and give you a fundamental background so that you can then move on to much higer level certs like the CISSP.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Just passed the test.... Review: I just passed the test after using this book to study, and I want to thank the authors for writing such a good study guide. It was easy to read and very comprehensive. One of the other reviews said something about questions on the test not being covered in the book. Maybe he took the wrong test? I didn't see any real questions that weren't in the book. Thanks again!
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Well....... Review: Let's start with the positive sides of this book: 1.) The overall book layout is good. 2.) Explanations are pretty easy to understand. Now, move onto the negative side: 1.) Doesn't cover a lot of stuff in the exam. In my 2 exam experiences, around 25 questions were not mentioned in the book. 2.) The exam simulator is on the internet. Personally, this is bad because I like to do last-minute study before exam. 3.) Questions in the book are good for checking whether you understand concepts covered by the book, not good for the actual exam. 4.) The 2-hours DVD instructor-led course is not so good, either. Well, these are just my personal opinions on this Security+ study guide.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: My first Syngress Book...and my last! Review: This book was torture for me to get through. I would avoid it like the plague at almost any cost, even when was I bored an had nothing else to do. It just seems to go on and on and it keeps repeating the same concepts and explanations over and over. You'd think that in a book this size, that goes into such painstaking detail in some areas, would at least cover all the exam objectives properly ? Right ? Wrong! It doesn't! To make matters worse, half of the content that is covered in this book isn't tested on the exam. It seems like every 5 or 6 pages that the author was explaining in a sidebar that "this information is not actually covered on the exam". The least they could have done was put the sidebar before these areas so I didn't have to bother reading it. I'd say this book is at least 50% fluff. They should have cut out that fluff and filled it with all the missing topics that actually are covered in the exam. This book goes way off topic in some area's and then into far too much detail in others and then completely excludes other exam topics. If you're going to spend your time reading a book this size and going into this much detail, you might as well study for the more respected CISSP Certification. This is exactly what I've decided to do. I wish I would have realized this earlier. Anyway, I figured I'd do the Security+ exam in preparation for the CISSP exam and I did the test today. I passed, barely, with a 764. You need a 764 to pass this exam. This was the closest I ever came to failing an exam. I'm an experienced Systems Engineer with my MCSE in NT4 and Windows 2000, CCNP, CCSA, CCA, CNA, A+, etc and this was my worst exam score ever. I would definitely not recommend doing this exam with this book as your only resource! P.S. I don't know where all these 5 star reviews came from? I think these people must be related to the authors.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Right on! All you'll need. Review: Picked up this book a bit back when it was the first and only one on the market. I read it cover to cover twice and worked through all the questions. I have a pretty good networking background, but some of this stuff is a bit new (as in I don't use it all that much) and this book got me ready for the exam. Took the exam and smacked it down on the first try. This book rocks, it's well organized and gives plenty of info...this one is staying on my bookshelf for some time for later usage and referrence. Thanks!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: excellent book! Review: The book is well written and blessfully free from the multitude of errors that normally plague IT books. It is also easily understood with lots of information and examples/demos to which can refer later. The test itself is nothing and you can pass it with a modicum of studying and common sense. Read the book once and take the test! The book will stay on my "A" shelf for awhile.
