Summary: IIS Complete -- and more!
Review: This book is the best written on IIS 5.0. Not only does it give you the same information you'll find in other books, but it goes even further and gives examples on how it applies to real business. You can go out and buy one of the other books and you'll have a nice, neat reference guide on your desk. But, when you want to understand how IIS 5.0 actually applies to the real world, you'll need to get this book. So, buy this book the first time.

Summary: Not what I thought it would be
Review: Truthfully this book doesn't really offer that much. I've found it to be fairly useless. Everytime I go to look something up in this book I have to hunt for it. Eventually I give up and get one of my other books. As a beginner book this may be adequate for someone completely new to IIS but for anyone else its not worth the money.

The book has no focus and more than half of the book is filler. Hey, if you really want to learn HTML and the other stuff this book talks about to pad page count you'll find that the discussions are extremely lacking. You'll need other books and those books will cover the topics much better than this one ever will. I say don't bother with this one.

Summary: Stocking Stuffer
Review: We needed to upgrade our IIS 4.0 servers. We've been thinking about it as a company for some time, but I hadn't yet done the research. My wife bought a few computer books for me for Christmas, and this one was in the pile. It was just one of those lucky things, I guess, because I don't know how my wife knew I needed a book like this. Anyway, I was able to take the concepts from this book and write up a project plan that was approved by management to upgrade all of our IIS servers to IIS 5.0. And, we did the whole upgrade in less than a week.

Summary: Fixing Problems the First Day
Review: What a goldmine this book has been already! I've been an SMS Administrator for a couple of years and was already familiar with Rod Trent from his great SMS books. Microsoft released a tool to report SMS information in web format. Of course, being Microsoft, the web reporting tool must run on IIS. I've not worked with IIS before, so when I found out that Rod had also written a book on IIS, I bought it. And, like so many times before in the SMS books, I was fixing some IIS problems the first day when I ran into a problem connecting FrontPage to the IIS server. The troubleshooting chapter alone has already saved my butt. Great book! Highly recommended!

Summary: All I really needed.
Review: When I get into a new application or technology, I usually just hit Amazon and pick up the majority of books I find. I do this because you usually have to read several books on a topic to get the whole picture. Well, I did the same thing with IIS, but have found that the only one I really needed was this book. It contains full product reference and scripting techniques, along with Internet technologies and how they apply to Enterprise applications. Excellent book!

Summary: More than I though it would be!
Review: You have to love a book like this. I needed a book on IIS 5.0, and got the kitchen sink. This book solved some problems I was having, as well as got me started on my way to becoming a web administrator.
