Summary: Overall not bad
Review: I have relied upon Professional Active Server Pages 2.0 for quite a while, and this book should take it's place nicely.

Worth a spot on your bookshelf.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: All round excellent resource
Review: I have to admit this book has been vital in our development. This is one of those reference books that a .Net developer cannot do without. Although not specific to any one language, this book covers the major aspects of .Net that aided in our initial development. We look forward to more titles from wrox.

Summary: Good Refernce, but not an easy book to read
Review: It is a good reference book. But it is not a book for people to learn. Even though I have ASP experience, I found it difficult to learn ASP.NET.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good book, buggy examples
Review: Like most Wrox books, this is an excellent tutorial. The ins-and-outs of ASP.NET are covered. The problem is that the example code (provided online) has some bugs. For example, one of the blocks of code is missing an "End If" statement. This could have been easily caught if someone would have quickly checked the code. At other times, the code in the book does not match the code in the example files. It looks like someone wrote the book and someone else wrote the example code (and someone else forgot to check the code!) Unfortunately, this sloppiness in example code is common in most technical books. I just expect a little more from Wrox. Debugging the example code has taken up valuable learning time.

Summary: MCSD.NET,MCSE,MCDBA,MCSA and MCT
Review: oh, I hope that the authors read my review. This could me the best ASP.NET book in the market but it isn't. Many pages, many chapters and many information but all these need time to manage and arrange. I think that the former publishing company just wanted to publish 1000+ book. Please in the future try to make in better. Something like Professional ASP.NET using C# and Professional ASP.NET using VB.NET. And please authors not more than 1000 in the same book.

Alghough I like many of the former wrox's titles.

Summary: MUST for ASP Developers to migrate to .NET
Review: Some people left messages complaining about not getting good reference on C#. Go online and download files for both VB.NET and C#! How many .NET books out there that will let readers review source codes in both VB.NET AND C# for the same sample project? I was looking for a type of book that explains both in VB.NET AND C# just so that I can see the syntax differences and get used to looking at in this new language C#..., and THIS IS IT! This book definitely gave me a jump start on HOW TO. If you have done lots of coding in ASP, this book will definitely gives you what you need to start coding in ASP.NET with VB.NET or C#! Good Luck!

Summary: Very detailed ASP.NET resource.
Review: The authors of this book clearly took a lot of time to ensure that the content is relevant to real-world developers, and it shows. Through the use of pertinent examples and sample code, even the most complex topics are understandable. The portions of the book that relate to data access (Chapters 8-11) were particularly useful, as ADO.NET is very powerful, but takes time to really understand. Often, I'd find myself wondering, "but what if I want to...", and the next section would answer the question. If you're looking for procedural information about how to just do the bare minimum to get an application running, this isn't the book for you. If, instead, you'd like to truly understand how ASP.NET and it's MANY features work, I would highly recommend buying and reading this book. I know I'll be referring to the content for the next several months.

Summary: Too Much Theory
Review: The book, although SLAMMED with lots of info about WHY asp.net is useful & WHY you should use it, doesn't provide you with information on HOW to use it.

The book doesn't seem like a useful tool for individuals making the transition from ASP to ASP.NET as far as providing useful examples & syntax reference.

It's loaded with theory & overview information but provides little in the way of examples, syntax, & reference.

Summary: Lots of pages, too little useful content
Review: The first thing you'll notice is that the book is mainly concentrated using vb.net. That is fine, but looking at the code as a c++, c#, java programmer just begins to drive me nuts. If you want the c# examples, you have to download them. If you like to write the code to help you learn, this book is not for you. Chapters 5 and 6 are almost wholly useless as far as examples go, but a decent read for understanding how asp.net works. The web services and mobile controls were nice. The datastore chapters were good for understanding asp.net. I would have expected to see more OO design in the professional book. If you have an asp.net book already, this won't bring many new revelations to you. If you are looking for a single asp.net book, this is a decent one to have. If you are beginning asp.net, this book is not for you, as the examples just aren't concise or clear enough.

In short the book isn't worth it if you have some asp.net books already. If you are developing with asp.net currently, this may be a decent reference. However, you might find more use using MSDN for reference. A sub par wrox book.
