Rating: Summary: 1300 pages of nothng Review: As another reviewer stated this book NEVER gets to the important topics. I found it useless.
Rating: Summary: Excelente libro Review: Buen libro. Un texto que es muy especifico y didactico.
Rating: Summary: Useful but not exhaustive. Review: Going from classic ASP to ASP.NET is not so much a process of learning a new language as it is figuring out a new programming model. Speaking Visual Basic helps, but all the customs and habits you knew have been replaced by something new.I wish I could say this book gets you through the transition, but aside from three or four pages in the beginning, you don't really get a firm grasp of the differences between ASP and ASP.NET. It's more helpful when you start to work with .NET itself, as it has practical examples and the like. But like most reference books of its sort, it's better as a resource than a general "theory of" guide. Still, I'd say it's a solid addition to an ASP.NET library.
Rating: Summary: Very Disorganised , Repetitive Review: I am not at all satisfied with this book ..I usually do not write reviews ..But just wanted to caution you all I brought the book for my Certification Study ...and as a reference . But the way the book is written , you are confused . and The way it is organised , you are lost!! Like If i need some perticular thing, sometimes i am clueless as to which topic I should look . I would suggest the MCSD/MCAD book by Amit Kalani . Before you buy the book see the differnce the way these books are wrtiiten in the preview pages and If you are plaaning to buy a book for certification , like me .. wrox is not for you .I really regret spending my money on wrox .
Rating: Summary: Totally Useless Book Review: I am still wondering why I brought this book?? I am an experienced programmer and I have been working in ASP & other related technologies for the last 3 years. This book is the most pathetic book I have ever read. There are incomplete examples scattered through out the book and no head or tail can be made out of them. If anybody of you is from India, then forget to access the online edition of the book which has been advertised on the cover page.
Rating: Summary: Lamest book for ASP.NET Review: I cannot believe this book published by WROX. Usually WROX publishes great books but this one is nowhere close to be a good book. Visual Studio .NET comes with great GUI enhancements to make ASP.NET development easy and guess what, this book is not mentioning any of those. They use "inline code" instead of "code behind" in most of the examples which it is kind of old school asp development habit. Examples and chapters are not organized well. If you are new to ASP technology and you want to learn ASP.NET for the first time, this is NOT a book for you. If you are an established ASP developer (which the book requires to be one) and you want to learn ASP.NET quickly, this is NOT a book for you. I guess this book was good a year ago when there were not many books around but today you can find much better books then this. nowhere close
Rating: Summary: Vast amount of information Review: I found that this book contains a vast amount of information on virtually everything you will need to know to really get up to speed with ASP.NET. I wasn't sure whether to go for this big Wrox book after reading some negative reviews about the old edition, but I've been as impressed by this title as much as I was by Wrox's former Professional ASP. Make no mistake, this is not a book for beginners. This reflects the complexity of ASP.NET. But as a comprehensive and high level study of ASP.NET, it would be hard to beat. If you're looking for a book that starts with the basics, and gradually builds up your knowledge, this book mightn't be for you. It tackles all the important topics of ASP.NET, and so assumes that the reader can keep up a fast pace. Unlike the earlier reviewer, I didn't find any bugs in the code download. In fact, I found the code to be very well organised, and free of errors.
Rating: Summary: Possibily the most frustrating book on asp.net Review: I found this book frustrating for so many reasons but the most prominent are: * most of the code in the book is in VB.net and a smattering of C# - and no matter what the authors say you can't learn this in two languages. It would have been nicer to see a separate C# edition. I kept trying to port the vb code to C# and ran into problem after problem. * most of the sample code is buggy and a pain to get going. trying to follow the examples in the book with the code provided felt like a great waste of time. But more than that the way they structured the code was weird. They put the connection string in a usercontrol. Dont you think putting it in the config file or a db class would have been better. And dont even get me started on why they use three different connection methods. And not once did I see code behind. * Structure of the book could have been better as well. There is little sense of evolution in your work - each chapter is self contained and that has its benefits but you couldnt see how to put everything together - enterprise class system design is definitely not present.
Rating: Summary: You'd think it would be more help Review: I got this when it was basically the only book out there. Since then, whenever I have an ASP.NET problem I open this book, search vainly through the 1300 pages for coherent help, then give up and go to google groups. With all that writing you'd think that I would occasionally find my answers in there...
