Rating: Summary: Best ASP book ever written! Review: After spending almost $100 on other ASP books, I finally found the one that actually taught me something. What's great about this book (unlike the others) is that it doesn't assume you have any background with VBScript. The explanations of VBScript and actually, everything you do in the book, are extremely descriptive, so you know what's going on. I'm not a total tech person, so there were a couple of chapters I had to read a couple times just to make sure I got it, but overall, this has to be the best ASP book I've ever seen! Kudos to the authors. And while we're on that subject...the authors have been amazing. There's actually a kind of tech support for the book. When I ran into a couple of snags, I went to the author's web site and was able to email directly with him to figure out the problems. Definitely worth the money. Don't pass this one up!
Rating: Summary: Great ASP Book & Oveview of VB Script! Review: Great Book for Beginning ASP. If you know Visual Basic you will find this book very easy to undrstand and to learn how ASP works. The overview of VB Script is also very good. I don't consider using Java Script with ASP, but if you do, there is no Java Script covered in this book. If you are looking to start out with ASP -GET THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: Review of Teach Yourself Active Server Pages 3.0 in 21 Days Review: I found this book very helpful in making the transition from developing Access 97 and VBA database applications to similar database applications for the Internet using ASP with VBScript. I found the book to be very clear, concise, and well structured.
Rating: Summary: All new authors & content! Review: Active Server Pages are now an established method for creating dynamic, personalized web sites. With Sams Teach Yourself Active Server Pages 3.0 in 21 Days, as with all of our Sams Teach Yourself books, we strove to make it easy for anyone with a basic understanding of Web development to be able to quickly and easily learn to apply ASP. We stepped back and evaluated how to provide the best book possible for version 3.0 of ASP. We reviewed the feedback provided by reviewers and readers of the previous edition of our ASP in 21 Days book as well as talked to a number of people in the industry. The result was a highly-qualified new authoring team - Scott Mitchell and James Atkinson - and a completely new book. The results are fantastic! If you are interested in learning ASP 3.0, Scott and James have provided the book that can teach you!
Rating: Summary: Extremely Helpful Review: This book ranks among the best I have read with respect to providing a solid, thorough, and useful understanding of its material without assuming the reader has any background in the subject. The reader quickly learns the overall purpose and usefulness of active server pages and immediately sees actual code and its results. The book provides clear instructions on setting up one's own machine to allow the reader to enter code and watch the results produced in a browser. Best of all, no background in VBScript or data base programming is needed. The reader naturally learns about these in the course of the text. This is really an excellent piece of work well worth the investment.
Rating: Summary: Superb Review: This book is SOLID. Buy it to learn the fundamentals of ASP ASAP. Then go buy the WROX books for all the extra goodies or check out the numerous ASP developer websites.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book--even better to learn DB programming Review: When I first bought this book I was skeptical that it wouldn't really cover database programming that well, like three others that I had. Well, now all I can say is that I'm considered an expert in database programming by many people just one month later! This book is excellent, so are its authors.
Rating: Summary: Stop looking! This is the best ASP book - period! Review: Extremely well put together. Makes ASP seem simple. No useless, confusing jargon. Highly organized, clearly understandable and very concise. Undoubtably, a lot of work went into this book. It's written with the reader in mind (unheard of for most tech books). It fills it's promise - Learn ASP in 21 days. Probably less if you choose too. I normally hate tech books. This one was a pleasure. I'd give it 10 stars if they would let me. No, I'm not the writer's mother. I am a very happy customer who now understands ASP!
Rating: Summary: To be recommended Review: I bought this book as I decided to create an ASP for a bookshop as part of a university project. The biggest problem with this book, I found, is that I quite honestly couldn't put it down! I had an ASP up and running within days of starting to read this book (connectivity problems aside - mainly due to my being unable to use an Access 2000 database as a DSN). The book is written in good, old-fashioned plain English and I carried it around with me everywhere (which was difficult considering it is rather a bulky tome). Anyway, the upshot is that my course tutor has been going around praising my ASP to high heaven. The only thing missing is how to page through multiple records but if you follow the link to (...)then you'll find what you need there.
Rating: Summary: This Book Rocks - Straight forward and Well Presented Review: I found this book is quite simply one of the best step by step guides to ASP coding techniques. As a beginner it would give you an excellent structured guide, as an intermediate coder, this book fills in all the gaps. Each chapter consists of clear explanations followed by a practical quiz. Kudos to Scott Mitchell & James Atkinson in delivering such a practical book.
