Summary: Another Excellent Book by the SAMS group!!!
Review: This was the 3rd ASP book I've purchased and after reading this book everything finally made sense! Very easy to read and straight-forward. All examples actually worked, too. Now I'm able to go back and read the other "Beginner Books" finally understanding what they are saying. A must buy if you know absolutely zero about ASP and Visual Basic. I'd definately like to see an advanced version by the same authors.

Summary: Excellent, only lacking DHTML reference
Review: Excellent book that clearly explains the basics of ASP using VBScript. In fact its more like a "Teach Yourself VBScript with ASP 3.0" book. However, alot of client side scripting requires knowledge not only of HTML but also DHTML which is not covered at all. It would have been nice to have included this vital topic as a reference in an appendix . Therefore, I would recommend buying along with this book something on DHTML as well.

Summary: A Gentle Yet Comprehensive Introduction to ASP
Review: I own a few ASP books. Wroxs, Oreillys, Dummies, etc. Quite a few, actually! I had been tackling ASP programming off and on, without satisfactory results. I must honestly say, this book is very exceptional in terms of making important concepts clear to aspiring ASP programmers. I don't have a programming background.

I went through other books, gleaned some understanding of ASP programming but still my understanding is too weak to build anything substantial.

I believe, after finishing this book, I would have the neccessary foundation to build a meaningful interactive website and return to the Wroxes and Oreillys. One important feature of this book is, the authors repeat important concepts often, until you can truly be familiar with them. No programming exposure and want to pick up ASP programming? This is THE BOOK!

<B> Two Thumbs Up! </B>

Summary: If you are an ASP newbie - this is the only book
Review: The book helped me make the transition from an HTML hack to an ASP coder. I have been working with HTML, JavaScript and Perl since 1994, and a year ago, I became involved in a project that required learning ASP quickly. I purchased this book along with Active Server Pages for Dummies and Beginning ASP, and this one was by far the best. It says 21 Days, but working around the clock, I got through the book in about a week.

If you are a web developer, this book explains 95 percent of the stuff you need to know - like how to set up database connections (DNS and DNS-less), how to code pages to add, update and delete items from a database, how to use the many VBScript functions in ASP, ASP components, and a great chapter on debugging ASP. (Every code example in the book works!)

There are only a few minor shortfalls, like there is nothing on how-to add password protection, security, and the database examples are primarily based on Access rather than SQL Server, but this information is freely available on the web and shouldn't stop anyone from buying this book. Even though it has been months since I worked through the tutorials, I still find myself using it several times a week as a reference.

This book has helped add ASP to my programming skills and it ranks among the top five computer books that I have purchased.

Summary: Super Resource to Learn ASP
Review: This is an exceptional book to learn ASP without previous programming experience. By the time you are through you will have a fundamental understanding of ASP that will take you to the next level of website programming if you previously only knew how to create simple HTML pages. The book is easy to follow and logically progresses from basic to complex.

After getting this foundation, you will be ready to move on to more advanced books/subjects about ASP.

Summary: An ASP foundation.
Review: A well written and structured book. Covering the essentials with great sense, this book is highly readable. I'd been learning ASP from various online sources, but didn't understand some of the fundamentals. This book presents the fundamentals very well, for a programmer or non-programmer.

The only pitfalls are that there is a noticeable degree of repetition, whilst it is obviously intentional, it is a little frustrating, when the information being repeated is just one page back. Personally I would like to see more usable examples along the way, whilst the "bonus projects" are working applications, tieing the various chapters together in the form of examples throughout the book would be an extra bonus.

Summary: Amazing
Review: This book is amazing.. it has transformed me from an ameteur web designer to a professional in 3 weeks and i am a lot more confident with myself when designing web applications because of this book..

Thank you sams, scott, and james!!

Summary: Simply the best book to begin working in ASP
Review: I read this book without any previous knowledge of ASP, and after I finished reading it, I found I could understand more than I thought. The book not only has very good examples but also has a wrap up sample project every "7 days" that if you decide to do, will enforce what you've just learned. I think it is the best introductory book you can find. As a side note; I also purchased WROX Beginning ASP, and although I would also give 5 stars to that book, I'd suggest that if you want to learn and have never coded in ASP before, definitely this is the book to start with. If you already have some idea, then you might like to consider going for the WROX one which goes a little more in depth into some areas and you can always use as a reference in the future. You will definitely not be dissapointed about this book if you are a novice like myself. It begins with the logic to start coding in ASP(Control Structures) and it takes you all the way to connect to an Access Database and fully interact with it.

Summary: Excellent! Easy to Read and fast paced!
Review: This is THE book to get if you want to learn good, fundamental, ASP. Although this book isnt as thorough as the Wrox book, its a much faster read, focusing on ASP fundamentals. The author gets repetitive at times, but i believe this is by design so as to drive home all the major concepts. Repetition is good, especially for the novice. I've already started developing a couple database-driven web applications at work thanks to this book. I recommend this book for beginners and then maybe moving on to the Wrox books for more detailed reading.

Summary: Learn from ASP from two guys who KNOW ASP!
Review: After learning another web language I wanted to learn Microsoft's ASP because I have seen so many web pages using it and as a young programmer I want to get a taste of everything so I picked up ASP in 21 days by Mitchell, and Atkinson. Not Only have learned ASP it has quickly become my favorite web language! The examples are clear and concise. Analysis hit home on what the code in the book is all about, and I found myself learning with ease. I have read many programming books and I must say that this is one the best, and the authors introduce you to there popular ASP website which I have found very useful as well......5 stars is not enough!
