Summary: Learning ASP Begins With This Book
Review: When I decided to move into the field of Web-development -- as opposed to Web-design -- I wanted to go with ASP (using VBScipt).

This book is, without a doubt, the finest resource available for learning Microsoft's ASP technology. It is well written, and covers just about all the bases of ASP.

The only criticism I have is that the nuances of SQL (beyond the SELECT statement) were not covered more in-depth, but as the authors state, that would take a whole other book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: EXCELLENT ASP BOOK
Review: This book is the best book for learning ASP. The title says learn ASP in 21 days, but with this book I became an ASP developer in half the time, and I'm sure you will too. I just couldn't wait until the next day to read the next chapter. There are no errors in this book. The reading is excellent and understandable for anybody and the examples are great for whatever projcet you are trying to accomplish. I know that ASP.NET has just came out but I am very content with this book. Whenever the team that created this ASP book makes a book on ASP.NET then maybe I'll consider getting more into ASP.NET but until then, I'm happy, and I'm a Apple man, myself.

Summary: Definitely a good book for beginners
Review: I was first reluctant exploring myself with web development since I was more into PB database programming. Fortunately, I was able to get the right book. Learning ASP 3.0 with this book is really very interesting. You feel not stopping once you get started reading from day 1.

With the step by step approach, the content is very easy to understand. Exercises at the end of every chapter provide a deeper understanding on the lessons discussed.

For starters of ASP, I highly recommend this book.

Summary: Good for newbies
Review: This book is really good for people who have never done webdevelopment before and want to learn ASP + VBScript to start with.

Because I'm a webdeveloper and knew pretty well what I wanted to learn from this book, I was able to read through the chapters quickly by skipping contents relating to webdevelopment and programming in general. Perhaps the "24 Hour" edition was better for me, but unfortunately the local bookstore didn't have it.

Summary: 5 Stars - What Else Needs to be Said?
Review: The authors Scott Mitchell and James Atkinson definitley deserve high praise for working on this book. These guys KNEW what they were talking about. Coming from a background with Java and JSP (with a little VBScript), I was expecting to take a while learning ASP. WOW WAS I WRONG! These guys did an amazing job preparing this book. I was able to breeze right through the book with ease. Everything was short and to the point. They didn't bother you with explaining what every single letter in the code does and why they have what they have etc etc. I can't say it enough...GREAT JOB GUYS! (I bet you hear this all the time)

From start to end, these guys explained the material well. They didn't bother the reader with detail and over extensive code analyzation. The examples were clear and to the point. There was no extra fluff that some of the other books that I've seen have.

The authors covered the basics, from VBScript to ASP development (without Databases and with them).

I can see why everybody loves this book, BECAUSE IT'S GREAT.

Don't just go on what I'm saying, look at the other reviewers. They will definitley agree with me.

Summary: Excellent for beginners
Review: If you are new to the whole way Microsoft approaches programming, you will love this book. Mitchell and Anderson point out crap that Microsoft has done in the past with bad programming standards and the right way to program with Microsoft technologies. Read this book cover to cover. I know, get a life.

Summary: Well rounded book for the first timer
Review: Being a first time ASP programmer, this book brought me up to speed wonderfully. I found the text to intelligent, well organized, and error free. This book focuses mainly on ASP with VBScript, so if you are looking to use Jscript, Python, or PerlScript, I would recommend searching out another title. From walking the novice user through installing IIS or PWS to cobbling together your first SQL query, this book has proved itself as the best programming reference manual I own.

All in all, it rocks my socks.

Summary: The best beginner book on ASP
Review: I've bought several ASP books that were supposedly for beginners, but none of them have carefully explained the fundamentals quite like this book. The authors really explain and reiterate terms and concepts when they are relavent, not just in a defenition. I found it to be the only ASP to effectively teach VBScript and provide thorough discussion on terms, topics and concepts.

Summary: very good
Review: this was my second book on ASP, and I see that it should have been my first. very thorough, in some cases too thorough. the first few chapters were more like a VB refresher than anything, which I find good for someone that may be a little rusty in that area. nonetheless it helped. I'm a big fan of the TY series, and this one is no exception. In any case I give three thumbs up! (yes....three <bg>)

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Surprised by the high rating
Review: I bought this book, because off the high rating but it is not *very* good. Like someone else wrote, it seems like the writers get paid for each page, they repeat themselves over and over again explaining obvious code examples in detail etc. It seems like the book treats the reader as a total newbee. Everything is written 3 times.

I had no internet programming what so ever, I do have much professional C++ experience. For me it had an irritating slow pace. So if you have programming experience like me, but do not know ASP/Internet do not buy this book. I think this book does have a market, so others would like it.

After the first 8 chapters it became better because then
everything was totally new for me, and then I could take
it that every simple item was explained and explained over
and over again. I got some info out of it, but too less,
everytime I thought, now that's an interesting subject, the
writers wrote: 'Please buy another book for that'.

This book might still be good for you, if you have no
programming experience you might love it like all the others
that gave it 5 stars. For me, sorry I didnt like it, and to
warn others like me I give it just 2 stars.
