Rating: Summary: YOU CAN DO BETTER! BELIEVE ME! Review: I did this whole tutorial book. So I am a little bit grateful. After you buy the book, throw away the CD. It's virtually worthless. Use it as a coaster for your drinks and freak out your friends. Now see the movie "The Merry Widow" (1933). Maurie Chauvalier: Don't I look terrific? Jeanette MacDonald: Funny, yes. Terrific, no! Well, that about sums it up. There are huge "blocks" in this tutorial. Like you are walking on a bridge and some of the planks are missing. And then you have to trace your way back and figure it out yourself! I had to do this 3 times. The book is okay, Just don't buy it. Buy "Running Microsoft Windows 98" by Craig Stinson. The doctors won't have to keep taking skin grafts because you keep tearing out your hair. And there isn't any phoney CD. Good luck!
Rating: Summary: Dummy approved Review: I purchased this for the lady of the house, an admitted newbie, raw recruit clueless computer user. I set up a computer for her in the living room, put my old dusty copy of Win98SE in it, told her to consult the book and not me should she have a question, and turned her loose. The book has done a admirable job answering her questions. A couple of months after buying it, I thumbed through it, and it did the same for me. This dummy thinks it's great.
Rating: Summary: It was about the Basics and Intermidate Parts of Windows98 Review: I thought that the Book was a very Informative book, but I do want to point out something. Normally when I read these books, I buy the product, which I did first! then I read the book. Most of it was the same as Wind0ws 3.11 and Windows95,and the products have still not changed, such as the old dos program that he still has, and the the the Lotus Magellan. That was made in the first book that he had made about Windows. Also, because the product was so new, not all the things were correct, and that could make my system bad, or with the Internet Explorer, I could have lost some of the Items that are included with the IE. I think think that the major best part of the book though was when he got to all of the new programs that are made in Windows 98, and that are different from the programs in Windows 95 or Windows 3.1 As I have said before in the survey, I think this book should get a 3 Star rating, but when "Dummies" Second version of this book comes out, I think I might give the book a four or a Five!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent-for a beginner Review: I thought this book was an excellent book for people who are just beginningto learn the bloated version of Windows 95- Windows 98. It is good at teaching the basic manuevers and how to do basi stuff, but it does not go into any depth about advanced functions. Overall, it wasn't bad. i reccomend it for beginner to lower intermediate.
Rating: Summary: TOO MUCH 'FLUFF' Review: In reading this book, I was frustrated by too much unnecessary language. Having just bought my computer, and a total novice, I was anxious to learn every aspect of Windows 98. I was not impressed by the author's humor and feel it was a rediculous waste of paper. I didn't want 'fluff', I wanted 'meat'! It also didn't provide the 'in depth' information I was looking for. This book was far from meeting my needs. If you are serious about learning ALL of 'Windows 98' quickly, look elsewhere.

Rating: Summary: Useful, accessible, and reassuring Review: Last year I switched from Mac OS to Windows 98, and after reading the paltry scraps of instructional material that came with my expensive new system, I hurriedly bought a few books to supplement all that I didn't know. This homely book turned out to be the most useful one. It is full of good information, patiently and compassionately conveyed. The entire "Dummies" series is burdened with chaotic graphics (little dartboards, hand icons with strings tied around a finger, checkmarks, a little man) and a schoolbus look for the books' covers. If you like a book to look good on the shelf (always a nice plus) you will have to make a cover for this one. Highly recommended, though, for the neophyte Windows user.
Rating: Summary: Good, but a little dilute Review: The book lives up to its brag of providing information on Windows 98 that is comprehensible to people who are not techno-geeks. It also addresses the kinds of questions that can be urgent to newcomers (e.g., "Where did all my stuff go?" or "Why won't my computer respond?") However, the information is diluted with more chat and cuteness than is needed; I think twice as much information could have been provided in this number of pages (and at this price) without compromising understandability. Perhaps then there wouldn't have had to be so many recommendations to go get "More Windows 98 for Dummies" and other "Dummies" books. In short: I recommend it for anyone confronted with Windows 98 and feeling a little helpless about it (as I was after upgrading from Windows 3.1), but don't expect to become very proficient based upon this book alone.

Rating: Summary: An easy read Review: The book was an easy and quick read. The only problem, most of the contents you can figure out by just using the program. I still enjoyed reading it and I did pick up a tip or two. Just ordered "More Windows 98 for Dummies" and hope there are more secrets to learn.
