Rating: Summary: Do not buy this book ! Review: Although I enjoy the overall format of this book and am learning alot, I found the errors VERY frustrating. There were several times when I had to abandon a tutorial because there were crucial steps missing or errors which were difficult to figure out so I lost out on what was being taught and was forced to move on to the next lesson. Later on, this was further frustrating as she refers to previous lessons. If you haven't been able to do them, it's hard to figure out what she's referring to. The tutorials really should have been tested much more thoroughly with beginner readers to ensure that they could be followed relatively easily and so that the errors and missed steps/information could be corrected. argghhhhhhh !!!! Not good !!
Rating: Summary: An awesome source for everything you need to know. Review: As a designer who needed to expand my capabilities, I found this to be the best book I've seen on Photoshop - by far. I had considered plunking down a lot of cash to take a hands-on Photoshop seminar, but I'm glad I got this book instead. I saved a ton and learned more than I probably would have in a class. The progressive tutorials are an amazingly easy way to quickly learn how all of the great Photoshop tools work. They are clear and easy to follow, and at the same time offer tons of practical information about how to use Photoshop in the real world. I especially appreciated how the illustrations move right along to help explain the steps in the tutorials. The writer gave me all the information I needed to create the projects and get a good sense of how Photoshop really works. And the tutorials focus on exactly the kind of tools I need to do my job. Jan Kabili really knows what she's talking about. I'm not a total Photoshop novice, but I didn't realize how much there was to learn until I read this book. This is one of the most useful Photoshop books in my design library.

Rating: Summary: Good intro to PS7, but poor quality control Review: As someone who is new to Photoshop, I wanted a way to become acquainted with the basic functionality using a hands-on approach. This book accomplishes this in principle, using a tutorial approach stepping through the application of features and functions on images and documents provided on CD-ROM. Unfortunately, the tutorials have been poorly tested, if at all. Many steps and instructions in the book do not correspond with what is presented on screen. Sometimes steps are missing or misstated and must be inferred. In one extreme case, a starter file is provided to work on, but it is in fact an ending file with all steps already applied. This, while a separate and redundant ending file is supplied to demonstrate the final result. Most errors are less severe, but they nonetheless require time and effort taken from the lesson in order to recover. Depending upon the reader's skill and insight, recovery attempts may or may not be successful. The publisher should provide an errata list and corrected files.
Rating: Summary: I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH, GREAT BOOK! Review: I just ordered Photoshop 7 Complete Course a couple of weeks ago and I cannot say enough good things about it. I have already received more then my money's worth out of this great book. It is sometimes so hard to understand things when read in a book but the author has more then taken out all of the guesswork of the instruction. It is so thorough she systematically takes your hand and walks you through every part of the course. If you need to or want to learn Photoshop, you have found the book you have been looking for in this book. I cannot possibly see another thing that she could have included. Literally, I could go on and on touting this great book. The only thing that I have left to say is, buy it, you will not be sorry.
Rating: Summary: The best Photoshop 7 book Review: Never mind the review below that it doesn't work perfectly with XP - it does. I've gone through the whole book and found only 2 places where the examples on the CD weren't exactly what was being explained, but that's such a small percentage it's not a problem. The fact is, this is the best hands-on, clearest explanation of how to actually use and live with Photoshop that I've ever used. Really.
Rating: Summary: The best Photoshop 7 book Review: The pictures from the enclosed CD do not match the pictures in the book. Therefore I cannot do the lessons as directed ... What a waste.
Rating: Summary: very logical. Review: this book was wonderful. finally a practical learning material for students without having to handhold them thruout. this review pertains not only to this book, but everything in life as well. i think it's safe and accurate for myself to say that i've read and experienced a myriad of computer technology books geared toward design. what i noticed most about them is that the once authors propose a book to write, they have to meet strict deadlines. now, i don't know about how others think, but if it ain't right, it shouldn't be published. i'm not complaining about minuscule matters such as typos and such... give some of these confusing books published to technology critics at MIT or Harvard and they'll immediately notice the problem and may perhaps do empirical work to improve on these garbages produced.... as there is another problem to solve for them. anytime a person is confused, something isn't right. now when a person patiently thinks and tries to problem solve and still wonders thereafter, one can only conclude that the author may perhaps know the subject matter well, but isn't mentally organized nor can teach. what i'm trying to say is that many books are not introduced in chronlogical order. THE PROBLEM IS NOT whether the material is taught, it's how it's organized and displayed in chronological order to the reader.
Rating: Summary: Not for windows XP users Review: This is best for Apple. It indicates things that just not there in XP! It does not explain early enough the functions of the tools. It stresses more on brochure making it not enough on photo retouching. I wish I could get my money back for this book.
Rating: Summary: Photoshop 7 Complete Course Review: This is definitely the most enjoyable, complete, user friendly photoshop book out there. Even though it is designed for the beginner, it has enough detailed to keep an advanced user entertained. I've tried the Bible and the Books by Adobe, this book is far superior. It not only shows you the tools, but also how to use them to nest effect and more importantly, when to use them (and it full colour!). Even when you have finished the course, you'll end up using this book as a reference book. If you are going to buy one book to learn Photoshop...you can't go wrong with this one.
