Summary: An excellent, and rare, assembler reference
Review: Assembler reference books are hard-to-find these days, much less good ones. This is a superb, detailed, and very thorough reference. This book presents, in good depth, a vast array of important programming issues that are not even mentioned in most other Assembler books (if you can even find one!). Highly recommended.

Summary: The best reference for S390 assembler programming available!
Review: Don't let the "Advanced" in the title throw you. This book is a great guide for anyone doing IBM S90 assembler programming. I find it frequently to be a better quick reference than manuals provided by IBM. An added bonus is that the author has provided all the source code in the book on the public domain CBT tape and through NASPA on their annual CD-rom (http://www.nascom.com) which makes using the techniques shown even easier. Sam Knutson, S390 Developer, Landmark Systems Corporation

Summary: Good text!
Review: I am a system programmer who lives in Japan. I was described in this book and most techniques by which the programming had been done had been described up to now. I want to value this book as a memo which is the textbook and settled to oneself of the junior. I am very satisfied with the content of this book.

Summary: Absolutely necessary for real assembly language programmers
Review: I have 25 years experience with IBM 360/370/390 assembly languge programming. Very good book. Good examples. I use it often. It covers PRACTICAL, USEFUL techniques and facilities. I would welcome a new edition with more current MVS features, macros etc, as this is very well done. However, until this happens, I suspect that I'll still be using this version on a regular basis.

Summary: A must-read for every systems programmer
Review: This is probably the best book on MVS Assembler in the market at the moment. If you have not read this book cover to cover yet, you should hang yourself in shame. It's not just an Assembler book, it's a Bible of the MVS internals. A sound training in Assembler is indeed required to grasp the contents of the book, but you don't have to be an Assembler Guru to start reading it.

Summary: New edition of the standard assembler reference book
Review: This is the standard reference work for assembler programmers. The title implies that it covers the advanced instruction set, such as privileged instructions, that are used primarily by systems programmers and systems software developers. This edition is almost identical to the first edition, but with new chapters on extended addressability, the assembler and the linkage editor. Early chapters include assembler basics such as register usage, building macros and programming style.
