Summary: I cannot rate this highly enough
Review: As an amateur(just for fun) Visual Basic programmer, I have little experience with C++ and Javascript(which are similar in syntax). I am decent enough with HTML, but was looking for the ability to do more. I AM SO GLAD I GOT THIS BOOK! I am now writing .asp pages right and left, I am accessing databases through the web, getting data from user forms using server side scripts. I am overwhelmed at how much my knowledge has increased in just two weeks with this book. I haven't even studied it really, I just look up the chapter that has what I want to do and there are examples at my fingertips. I am sure I will learn much more before I put this thing down. If you want to go the next level in your web design abilites, you cannot go wrong with this book.

Summary: Very Well Done!
Review: I've read programming books on all different sorts of languages including JavaScript. This is one of the best books I have read about any language. Mr Wilton does an excellent job of explaining the intricacies of JavaScript while making good points about the "gotchas" of some of the cross-browser compatibility issues. I am not a very good student, and I've never been a very adept reader of books so learning from books like this is usually difficult for me. Not with this book! If you are new to JavaScript or even programming in general, this is a great book to start with!

Summary: ok but not so inclusive
Review: this book is quite good but it lacks a sense of complete book for a java programmer. I will prefer the javascript book from stefen koch as to be more better than this. Stefen koch is a programmer by Netscape. Sultan Zahir Khan

Summary: Dis be da bestest!
Review: I was thrilled to finally get a JavaScript book that teaches basic (and not-so-basic) concepts in a clear, concise manner. I've been using JavaScript for around 2 years now, but I found the book really useful. Wilton did not write a cookbook, but instead takes the reader into areas that most authors don't. I've got 4 other JavaScript books (including Goodman's Bible), and none come close to the style delivered by Wilton. What I like personally is his coverage of string manipulation and Regular Expressions in a way that is understandable, without leaving you more confused as others seem to do. Don't buy the Definitive Guide or Bible if you don't know JavaScript. Get this book first, then move on to the big gun reference jobs.

Summary: Better than a COLLEGE COURSE!!
Review: FINALLY a book that TEACHES JavaScript Programming and not just copycat code! I took an Internet Programming class in college...basically was a joke. This book along with Professional JavaScript by Wrox, will make one a PRO!! Bottom line, Wrox makes the best computer books in the industry! I'm a PC Programming major at a 2 year school, and I'm learning MORE on my OWN from the WROX books than in any class I have taken, and that also includes University courses.

Summary: I'M FINALLY LEARNING!
Review: I have taken JavaScript in school (a six week course) and their book was pretty horrible and I came out of it with just a little understanding. I decided to pick up this book after reading a few reviews of it's worth and it's worth its weight in GOLD! I'm finally learning JavaScript and understanding about variables, for, else and switch statements etc. I have only been using it for about a week or so and have learned more than the six weeks in school. The only thing I wish was different was that it's so big with the 800 pages! I know it has to be to cover all the bases but I wish it never had to be so big. I guess we all do right? Nevertheless, this book is awesome! I'm learning a lot and I'm on my way to becoming a JavaScript programmer!

Summary: Finally, a book that teaches Javascript
Review: Before I purchased this book, I searched everywhere for a book for beginners. Most Javascript-beginner books are just full of a bunch of examples, and that's okay if you want to be a copycat; for those who want to create their own scripts and truly learn Javascript, then this is the book.

Summary: Wilton WROX !!
Review: Over time, I've read my share of computer language books, and I was generally confused and disappointed until I discovered WROX. The only reason I bought the Wilton book was because I was pleased with the other WROX titles I had read (and I needed to learn Javascript, of course).

Even for WROX, the Beginning Javascript book is outstanding. Wilton has the skill and patience to describe how everything fits together (important for the Javascript novice like me). He makes it real for you through excellent examples in every section of the book.

Wilton also does a great job of explaining how Javascript is implemented in the latest browsers and how all this relates to the most recent decrees from the W3C. Even if you don't want to learn about Javascript, you should buy this book as an example of what good computer language books can (and should) be.

Summary: Wilton, write another book!
Review: You are a natural. Excellent flow, excellent examples and a real feel for getting your point across to script idiots like me. I have given away all my other JavaScript books.

Not only is the book superbly designed and written, it is also edited and proofed in a manner qualitatively superior to most computer books. Let's hope the book is not a fluke and we get other fine products from the team who put this book together.

I join others in saying this is a book not for beginners only. Wilton (unlike other JavaScript authors) deals with the newest W3C DOM standards and techniques with clarity and authority.

Serious Web worker - buy this book!

Summary: Best Javascript Book Ever Written
Review: This guy is a true genius. I say this because a true genius cannot only do, but he can teach as well unlike some supposed project managers I know. This book takes a popular programming language and simplifies its concepts so much that after reading this book one could teach this language to anybody. Mr. Wilton should give himself a pat on the back for a well-written concise book on JavaScript. This book covers everything from the browser basic client side to the expert server side programming with ASP. This is an exceptional book and I would recommend it to anybody both programmers and beginners a like.
