Rating: Summary: Happy with purchase Review: Of all the Dev. learning books that I've bought over the years there are about 3 that I look back on and think to myself.... "I'm glad I bought that book, it made me grow".This will become one of those books. Although it came out shortly after the release of Beta 2, it is written in an unhurried manner. Examples are concise and, more importantly, accurate. Also, as with my other favourites, this book encourages you to use your brain at key moments. If you plan on becoming an ASP.NET aficionado then I would commend this book to you.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: This is a good book if you want to learn how to build web sites using asp.net and VB.Net. At the end of each Week the author shows how to build an application using the skills learned in that week. In day 22 the author shows how to build a complete application. I only gave it four stars because there no website that contains errors and source code discussed in book. I hope the author will setup a website. If a website already exists please let me know. This book is not for you if you want to learn C#.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: A very good book if one want to learn ASP.NET using VB. At the end of each week the author uses a mini project. At the end of the book the author takes you through the whole process on how to build a .NET Application. I have given it four stars only due to the fact that: - Did not Cover C# - Did not provide source code for download - No Website for errors If there is a website, please let me know. Otherwise let us create one and publish the code using C# as well. I hope the author will have time to write the same book but using C#.
Rating: Summary: Great For Beginners! Review: This is probably the best beginners book out there. This book intruduces the new technology as if the reader knew nothing but simple HTML. Don't get me wrong, the book covers all the new and advance features of ASP .NET, but the writer address the reader as if the reader new little about web development. If you've been VERY active in the ASP.NET development for the past few months, I suggest you read Wrox's Professional ASP.NET. If you have been one with very little time to involve yourself with the .NET code, i suggest you get this book now.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book on a beta product Review: I have several books on ASP.NET and find this one to be the most current with beta 2. Normally I am not a fan of the "Sam's Teach Yourself in 21 days" series as I find the books at a simpler level than I prefer. This one is an exception in that it provides a great base for most of the important concepts. Undoubtably there will be more comprehensive books written as ASP.NET commercially releases, but this is a great book to get a good overall understanding with examples that actually work.
Rating: Summary: Excelent for new comers, Ok for developers Review: When i was looking for a book about ASP.NET, i was searching for a book that could give me an idea what .NET was about, then i found this book which i thought that would be easy to follow for me, that i've got experience with web development but not too much ASP lines written. Once i get the book, i was really excited about it, it's really easy to follow and ASP.NET is an excelent technology... but now that i'm on chapter 6 i think that it's not enough for me... it do not covers some ideas as much as i would like... Neither, there is nothing about Visual Studio.net, maybe some chapter giving some tips could be great.
Rating: Summary: Great book if you want to start with ASP.NET Review: I would like to congratulate Chris Payne for his great book Asp.NET in 21 days. I read his book with a lot of fun and interest. The author covers in this book all the topics that are of real interest when it comes to asp.net. I liked the structure of the book's content and the easy to read written language :-). It is also a nice added value that it is possible to download the code of the listings on SAMS' website. All in all it is a great book that I will recommend everybody that I will meet and who wants to learn Asp.net by examples with their explanations.
Rating: Summary: A great primer for the newbie...experienced devs may sift... Review: The book is a great piece of work...a very good look at what ASP.NET can do for devs. The examples are very basic and are layed out nicely. The methods are taught in ways which are beneficial to both newbies to ASP 2.0+/ASP.NET, and as well for experienced developers. However, I would have wished that the authors spent more time on the topic of C#. Most of the examples in the book were carried out in VB.NET...which is logical, since this is expected to be the dominant method of coding...but the so-called "chapter" on C# merely introduces the language, briefly states it s relationship and purpose in the .NET Framework, and then gives a very basic syntactical outline of how to write C# code (which, if you are familiar with Java/JavaScript, won't leave too much of an impression). Otherwise, the book is great, and it's one of the better ones out there. A must-read if you're just starting out in taking your Web projects to the next level.
Rating: Summary: An asp.net book for VB/MS Access developers Review: This book has taught a lot about asp.net and I now feel I have enough knowledge to create asp.net sites to some degree. The book users VB for all examples it has a very small section on C# but I felt examples in C# should have been suplied on the CD. I was very dissapointed that this book didn't have any examples of conection to SQL server, connecting to access is not that useful for me. Apart from that I found the book easy to understand and have learned a lot. I should point out that I'm an asp developer I found I could skip a lot of the stuff I already knew and conentrate on the new things. Overall it's worth a read if you are interested in this topic.
Rating: Summary: Great place to start! Review: This book is a perfect place to start if your trying to dive into this great new .NET technology. After finishing the book, I have a solid base understanding of most subject areas within ASP.NET, and feel comfortable buying more advanced books.
