Rating: Summary: Worthy of the name "Bible"! Review: This is an excellent book that is very easy to read & understand. The autor even offers a website for additional info!
Rating: Summary: ACCESS-POOR! Review: This is one of the worst books I've seen for computer software since it has very few examples to build expressions WHICH YOU NEED TO KNOW in order to design within Access. I'm a beginning low-level intermediate user of Access and I was able to get more help from the help button on Access for designing than this book! Get another book, BUT DON'T GET THIS BOOK! Totally wasted my money on it! :-(
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointed Review: This was my first attempt at Access and this book didn't explain much considering it's over one thousand pages long. I don't know how other Access books read but this one tried so hard to cover everything about Access, but ended up not giving enough info on any one subject. The examples in the book are extremely week and don't explain anything more than the bare basics. The follow along software examples don't help either because the book asks you to create or make changes but you can't because there is a block on software. The example database is large with lots to look at but it was almost too much, I needed somebody to show me why certain things were done and this book wasn't that somebody. The book was good for introducing me to Access but that's it, when I actually tried to create a database I had so many more questions that went unanswered. That's why I'm back on Amazon.com, to try to find another Access book with better examples.
Rating: Summary: Great starter book covering everything needed. Review: This was my introduction to Access. Had never done anything prior to reading this book. Had a couple of applications up and running in about a couple of weeks. Gives you all the basics, with some advanced topics, that you need for a functional application. A great book in general. Very useful. I still find myself referring back to it.
Rating: Summary: "Bible" is an overstatement Review: Unfortunately, the title leads you to believe there is more content than actually exists. This book is for those who want to create a very basic Access application and database. If you need to write useful pass-through queries, or link meaningfully to external data sources, then you will be disappointed. I am saddened to see that so many technical writers want to use a fluffy example for their books, rather than one based on real life. So many topics (controls, queries, external data sources, SQL) are glossed over that it was difficult to glean any useful tips for more intermediate/advanced problems. The index is horrible. Do yourself a favor and check the book out in person before buying it online at Amazon.
Rating: Summary: Best Book for Beginners Review: With no absolutely no background in databases, and spending two hours every other day reading and practicing the examples I became a wizard at Access '97 in about six months. The examples and CD tutorial were the best I've ever encountered. The book states it omits the complex VBA programming so the beginner doesn't get confused. To learn VBA proceed on to MS Access/Visual Basic Step-by-step by Evan Callahan. Within one year you'll be able to pass the MS Certification.
