Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: The title almost threw me. I was afraid this book would be deadly dull and boring. It is not! I definately would recommend this book for someone who wishes to learn Access. It is a well written, easy to understand book that not only teaches Access, but gives a better understanding of all MSOffice programs.
Rating: Summary: This book is for beginner only. Review: This book assumes that you just don't know anything about any programming language, thus the author just does not bother talking in depth about some of the most important topics. I'm disappointed with this book. Such as he talks so little about how to use "!" and "." I would not recommend you buy this book if you want to design a database, however, if you want to learn how to "use" Access, then this is the one for you. For developers, you should consider "Access 2000 Developers's Handbook" Volume1. This bible book sometimes scrutinize things that aren't important. However, there's no better book on the market for beginnners except this one. However, The book's examples are very good and really interesting
Rating: Summary: Best Book I ever read for Microsoft Access Review: This book contains one continuous example that builds from chapter to chapter. Many of our employees have used this book to learn Access from. It can teach a person with no knowledge of database by starting from Chapter 1 or Information System Professionals can skip the fluffy concepts in the beginning and get into the meat of Access from chapter 7. The middle 1000 pages explain each and every feature of basic Access tables, queries, forms and reports. For those people who want to program, the second to last section covers events, macros, and VBA. The last 300 pages covers advanced features like security, client/server, and replication, and more. We love this book at our company. The CD has great programs on it from Database Creations, the company that the authors run. Great free programs and code examples and a bunch of demos for their add-on developer tools. They have won a lot of awards and you get many hundreds of dollars of productive software programs and examples.
Rating: Summary: Very Helpful Book! Review: This book covers everything I needed to write a system for my department. The CD examples are great. I highly recommend this book for anyone trying to be productive with Access. Very in-depth coverage of creating databases, forms and reports. Covered VBA from a laymans point of view.
Rating: Summary: Great Book for 1st Time Access Users Review: This book gives the reader much detail in regards to tables, queries, forms and reports. It also has a very good chapter on operators as well. Overall, I would recommend this book for anyone who is interested in having a strong foundation in MS Access. Good luck!
Rating: Summary: Good for the beginner to intermediate Review: This book is excellent for anyone who is familiar with Access and needs to look up answers to new questions. As with most "Help" books a beginner might be a little overwhelmed when you first look at it. For myself, I did not have any knowledge of Access prior to buying the book. I also bought an Access book that is specifically geared for the beginner. After I went through the second book and started working in the program I found that the Bible was much better to work from and still sits by my desk for anything I need to know. I would note that it should have a detailed section on security. Also, you would need another book to learn about VBA.
Rating: Summary: GREAT Beginner's book Review: This book is perfect for people who are totally new to databases. If you have worked in an RDBMS before, then you may still find this book useful as it covers almost all of the Access interface. It does not go into programming for anything of value, but unless you are already a programmer and are looking at how VB or VBA with MS Access can help you, then it does not matter that there is no coverage. You will be able to make a slick user interface and create the database that drives your application with the knowledge gained from this book. If you want programming, then Beginning Access 97 VBA Programming is an excellent follow up to this book.
Rating: Summary: Don't know Access 97...Just read the book...You Will! Review: This book not only provides excellent structure, which if you follow will provide you with a strong knowledge base of Access 97. If you know Access and need a reference book or a quick refresher this is the book. It doesn't skip over the hows and whats...I find this an invaluable daily resource!
Rating: Summary: Access for dummies' bible Review: This book seems ot strech you towards a peak of information that never comes. It keeps feeding you with information you can receive on any help file. It's examples are as simple as they can get. I dropped it before I reached it's middle.
Rating: Summary: Worthy of the name "Bible"! Review: This is an excellent book that is very easy to read & understand. The autor even offers a website for additional info!
