Rating: Summary: There are better ones out there Review: I really like the Bible series and for the subject (Access 97), it is a pretty good book. However, Access 97 is getting outdated and this review is whether or not you should upgrade to Access 2000 books. The answer is yes. Here's why.If you do not have Access 2000 and are thinking about this book because you only have Access or Office 97, I HIGHLY suggest getting Access 2000 Bible anyways. Access 2000 really hasn't changed much from Access 97, and most of the things that have changed do not apply to a beginner's book, which I would consider this to be. The menu commands and basics of database design, tables, queries, forms and reports have not drastically changed between Access 97 and 2000. You can get away with using a 2000 book if you are still on 97. Having said that, if you have either finished this book or are looking for the "next step" Access book to use after this one, please check out "Access 2000 Developer's Handbook Volume 1: Desktop Edition", ISBN 0782123708. It is a great follow-up, intermediate Access user's book.
Rating: Summary: This is supposed to be a reference? Review: I suppose if you've never seen Access before, this could be a good book to enable you to build very simple databases. As a reference I find it atrocious. I probably should have found something that wasn't a "for Dummies" style book.
Rating: Summary: Mediocre, since the CD did not match the book's examples Review: I was VERY disappointed in this book. The examples on the CD-Rom diskette did not match those shown in the book (figure after figure; I don't mean an occasional oversight). Lest anyone suspect that I made a mistake installing it, the index states that installation directions appear on Page 1044 -- which is _BLANK_. Although I wrote to the publisher (twice, in case one copy had gotten lost in the mail), I did not receive the courtesy of a response to either letter -- much less a corrected copy. Since the front cover describes the CD as "a $ 199 Value!", I am extremely upset about this ... especially in a $ 50 book.
Rating: Summary: Definitely not a book if you need to get up to speed quickly Review: I'm not a database power user and not a beginner either. For my work I needed to create a database, a data input form, and a few reports. I bought this book because I thought it would be helpful in getting me up to speed quickly. I was so wrong! This "Bible" is barely adequate as a reference. Don't depend on the index, because it's incomplete and full of errors....
Rating: Summary: Very simple. Very Basic Review: If you have no idea what Microsoft Access 97 is all about, then this book is for you. If you seek a reference book, or a book that will present new ideas and methods, look somewherre else. All the basics' basics are presented in this book, in simple, sometimes stupid examples. Indepth explanations are almost non-existant, and the book is mostly shallow and partial. I presume it will pose no problem for absolute beginners, but for a REAL study book, go fish !

Rating: Summary: A must for novice who know nothing about Access 97 Review: The authors explain every aspects of how to develop professional Access 97 applications from scratch. The only wish that I would like the author to do is adding some chapters about Access 97 Security.
Rating: Summary: The CD is very weak and offers no help with VBA syntax. Review: The book is definitely one sided in the sense that it only displays very simple databases. There are no examples of tables that have field(s) that accumulate. That is what the VBA code is for, however, I spent $49.99 on the book expecting to see VBA syntax on the CD. No chance! It's not there! Now, I am faced with spending $40 - $50 more on a book that really does have VBA syntax in it. As you can tell, I am not impressed with this book. I was using a 350 page book by Philip J. Pratt that covered everything this book takes 1050 pages to cover. Should anyone see something on the CD I missed, please inform me.
Rating: Summary: This book is a good start for novice Access Programmers Review: The book is pretty good choice for the beginners: the last 4 chapter are obviously useful for intermediate and advanced programmers, to
