Summary: This book is NOT A TUTORIAL!!!
Review: Any resemblance between the book examples and the sample files is purely coincidental. It is like the two parts of the package were developed independently. It is of minimal use as a reference and of no help for a beginner. If you are looking to learn Access 97 and have little or no database or Access experience look elswhere.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent Beginners Resource
Review: As a beginner I found this book very useful and it has been my BIBLE! However, it lacked information on replication. I eventually obtained the detail I needed from the Internet. My biggest disappointment was in the durability of the binding which fell apart shortly after purchase, as did the replacement copy!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good reference and instructional.
Review: As a beginner I needed to skim thru it once, before really getting into it. But since then, I use it alot as a reference. I now find it well organized. I think the Access 97 Developer's Handbook, and the Step by Step Access 97 are great complimentary books.

Summary: Good Resource Material for Access neophytes
Review: As a beginner in using Access, I looked high and low for a good book on the capabilities of this database. As I'd just been given a great number of Database related tasks at a new job, I needed to learn quickly. This book was well worth the money spent for a quick leg-up on the basics and more advanced features of this software. A good quickstart for Intermediate-Advanced PC Users who have little-to-no knowledge of Access.

Summary: Straight from the Magician's Hat
Review: Database professionals can feast on the very best training, secrets and advanced techniques in this incredible resource for building solid, high-end database systems that will hold their own, anywhere! Once again, Bravo Cary Praque!

Summary: if you're not a power-user, buy it now!
Review: easy to find subjects, and a typical sample database. i would have preferred more advanced stuff like database replication & synchronizing, as well as vba - but, you gotta start somewhere!

i recommend this book to anyone [like me at work] who still must build applications in access97 to share across networks, or on a shared drive. these guys are really good!...ae :)

Summary: Excellent!!!
Review: Excellent for the beginning to intermediate level. I'm in the process of developing a application and EVERYTHING I needed to know was there. I'm planning to market this application, and the 'how-tos' to do this were in this book.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good for learning overall design, but not specifics
Review: For the past several yars I have worked with relational databases, and picked up this book when I decided to work more intensely with Access. It helped a lot with the various tools that are a part of the software, as well as considerations in how to approach a project. However, the book does not provide enough detail and hard-core coding analysis for real-world situations. If you're an advanced beginner or low-intermediate user, let this book be your appetizer for more substantial fare.

Summary: So many typos...
Review: Good overview, but so many typos it is hard to follow. I actually learned more from figuring out what was wrong with the text and the examples than reading the book itself.
