These controls (typically quite simple to use with respect to simple data display) are able to accomplish a great deal more than merely present data. ASP.NET Data Web Controls Kick Start will quickly prove to be an indispensable reference for every ASP.NET developer from the novice amateur to the seasoned professional.

Summary: Should have been named Tips & Tricks for Data Controls ??
Review: ASP.Net hit me like a kid in a candy store - SO many controls and so many different things to do with them. This book has an excellent section which helps you understand which Data Web Control works best for your specific use.

It covers paging, data caching, how to utilize client-side script within a databound object and lots of handy little functions when dealing with data.

If you have already done a lot of work with Data Controls you can still pick up some tricks from this book - if you have not yet used Data Controls extensively then this book is a MUST HAVE.

Summary: Blinding!
Review: DataGrid Web Control Articles are just great.

They are easy to read and go into sufficient depth to be really useful instead of just skimming the surface.

11 out of 10 from me.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: ViewState is required
Review: First off this is an awesome book if you want to use the data controls that come with asp.net. There is no equal out there.
Secondly, buyer be warned. In order to use the controls you must have the ViewState enabled. What this does is increase the amount of data that needs to be sent back and forth between the server and client. This is not ideal if your writing a web site where you expect dialup users to use. The response time will be blown.

Summary: Incredible, A must have for asp.net developers
Review: First off, if you see a book written by Scott Mitchell then just buy it. The author of this book guarantees you an incredibly written, easy to understand, and informative book. This book is no exception to the great work produced by Mitchell.

This book will provide you with learning tools for asp.net data controls and real world examples. This book is the best on the market for those just learning asp.net or veterans in need of more in depth material and a reference book.

If you even sometimes program in asp.net, this book should be on your shelf.

Summary: An excellent resource for Administrators and Developers
Review: I had to develop an Administrator's Application to support a 'shopping cart' application.

I found Scott Guthrie to be a valuable reference. I used DataGrids to add, edit and delete all of the apps SQL Tables. His examples in regard to this were extremely helpful.

Thanks Scott.

I recommend this book highly!
