Rating: Summary: ADO left out Review: This is a very useful book, I just wish that the authors can come up with an advanced edition where they can cover ADO. I designed a dbase for a Stroke Surveillance Study we're running for the coming 3-5 yrs in coorporation between The University of Texas Houston-HSC and Corpus Christi, and found this book to be extremely helpful in a lot of spots, for ex. QBF.
Rating: Summary: Great Beginner Guide Review: This is an easy read. I was recently charged with reporting and documentation responsibilities. I was new to VBA, but not new to programming. This book presented some pretty sound fundamentals! We have begun creating Word documents from Access instead of creating reports - I LOVE IT! - check out "Learn Word 2000 VBA Document Automation" for the Word details if you are interested. An Access "must buy!"
Rating: Summary: Good Information, but where's ADO? Review: This is one of the books I recommend to those who want to learn about VBA and Access. I understand why they didn't choose to write their examples using ADO, but I wish they had given me a choice. If asked, I would have wanted more examples written using both data access technologies. Let me run them and decide which is slow or cumbersome. I will buy another book to teach myself ADO and I will use ADO with Access. ADO is clearly Microsoft's choice for data access in the near future (who knows what three letter acronym would be used five years from now?).
Rating: Summary: I know..it's 2004 but this book f*cking rocks! Review: Yeah, I still use Access 2000, but so freakin' what? Can most folks really justify the cost of upgrading to Access 2002/2003? Didn't think so...anyway, this book is just pure gold! A lot of the query examples in here use SQL, so this stuff should transfer to the new versions of Access. Next to the O'Reilly's Access Cookbook, this is the best Access book! Usually the Wrox books are highly regarded, and this book is a prime example why. If you find this one in the bargin bin, snag it! This book has really helped me in constructing user-interface canned queries and the report preview form design here is really slick. The authors break down all of the code in concise, easy to digest explanations. I freakin'love this book!
