Summary: Trying to get a grasp on C++? Get this!
Review: Actually, I read this in three days (been a slow week) and I feel I have a good grasp on the language now. I read an earlier version (second edition) but bought the third edition as a reference, and little is different aside from the chapter on the STL. If you have some understanding of basic programming concepts, this is a terrific book. I usually shy away from those "Learn X in a month" books, but this one really changed my tune. Covers everything in a logical manner and really helps one get over the OOP hump so many structural programmers face when trying to learn an object-oriented language. Also: Liberty's writing style is conversational and easy-going, which makes the more technical discussions easier to sit through. Highly recommended!

Summary: C++ beginner's goldmine...two great compilers on cd-rom
Review: One small problem:

DJGPP installer does not install DJDEV202.ZIP which is needed to build some of the add-on packages. It is on the CD, however, in the \DJGPP\ZIPS\V2 directory.

Other than that, has to be the best beginner's C++ software package I've ever bought!

Review: We use it for our class textbook although it is also great for independent learning.

Summary: Trying to learn C++
Review: I'm appalled at the errors and inconsistencies in the examples of the edition I am using. Maybe the latest edition has been cleaned up but I have no intention of wasting any more money on a book so poorly edited and proofread.

Summary: The book provides several examples to get the point across.
Review: The book is well written and easy to understand. I recomend this book to anyone wanting to learn C++ or improve their C++ skills. Jesse provided a Q&A and Quiz section (with answers) for each chapter of the book. I felt this was very useful because it reemphasized the important points and helped me verify if I understood what I read. I am also thankful Jesse provided a Web site with additional source code and information.

Summary: It does the job, but could be better
Review: I've been working with this book for a while now, and have found it to be a useful guide for getting me up to speed with the language. However, there are a number of typos, especially in the source listings provided in the book. I actually have found these errors to be helpful, as they ensure that I truly do understand the C++ syntax. In addition, the CD contains compilers, source listings and exams for each day's lesson. Although some of the exam questions are a bit sketchy, they have been excellent tools for me to determine what I do and do not fully understand in the material. Heck, if you seriously want to learn C++, go ahead an buy it and work it, its a lot cheaper than going to a training class!

Summary: good book, teach you from ground up.....
Review: Without practice,Nobody can really learn the beauty of C++. The good point of this book is that all the code in the book are all runable and free to be downloaded from website. I traced all those programs with my C++ compiler I solved all those subtle thing confusing me for long..

Summary: If you thought the second edition had a lot of errors...
Review: Be glad that you didn't read the first edition. It even had an editor's comment left in saying that the author should change this sentence here, etc. At least it's out of print now. If you make it past the errors, it's a sub-average C++ guide to learn on.

Summary: Great and convenient C++ summary
Review: After reading some more "academic" books about C++ I was really surprised how easy C++ can be. This book is a very good choice if you want to understand the semantics of this complex language. It teaches you object-oriented design in a very understandable way. To be recommended!

Summary: Third Edition - Fully Updated
Review: I'm very proud of the third edition of this book, which I've fully updated to the new ANSI/ISO standard. Every code example has been checked on a number of compilers, and I provide full source code, a FAQ and an errata sheet on my web site at http://www.libertyassociates.com. I thank you very much for considering my book and I hope it will meet your needs and expectations. Thanks again. -j
