Summary: Take both sides of the argument
Review: Reading the reviews for this book it has become apparent that there are two very contradicting views on it. I must agree with the steep learning curve and the poor quality examples. The first few days (chapters) of the book I found were well written and easy to get a grasp of. However towards the latter part of the first week and the beginning of the second, the complexity of the examples and the explanations increased dramatically. Each of the later chapters really needs to be read over several days in order to properly understand it. It is a long haul, but ultimately I found it useful. Liberty backs up every point with at least one code example that really need to be written in and compiled in order to understand fully. The typos and errors in the code are suprising in a proffessional publication however identifying and correcting them I found helped me to understand better.

After finally finishing this book after 2 and a half months, I found I had just the sort of understanding of C++ that the book seems to promise. It is long winded and for the most part, difficult if you are inxperienced in programming but the very 'in depth' explanations do actually help you to really get to grips with the overall language. I feel that this book cannot really be given an x/5 rating. If you want a book that is an easy read and relatively smooth to get through this is not for you. However if you have the time (and patience) to work through it, you will definately be on your way to being a good C++ programmer.

I would recommend the Complete Compiler Edition of this book. The included CD's come with some useful exams to take after each chapter and all the source code (error free, thankfully) and some exercises using what you've learnt.

Summary: Good book, good place to start...but...
Review: After years of being a C++ programmer, having read a lot of GOOD books, my opinion toward this one, after a while of reading it in the library (I just love reading programming books..) is...

It could have been a very good place to start learning C++, but it still have something that aren't clear enough. The first week was great, however. After that, you might become confuse with the content, as some areas are so easy to get lost in, like pointer.

While there are many books that do a better job for teach programming, this still be the good books. And, even they share the almost the same name, I prefer this one over Schildt's Teach Yourself C++ one. (Just ignore Mr. Schildt's books if you can! )

Summary: A must-have for beginners
Review: I didn't even finish the second week of the book, and I already know about fifty times more than I did before I bought it. This is coming from a person with a short attention span.

Summary: Excellent Intro Tutorial
Review: Being skeptical at learning a programming language in 21 days I was a bit hesistant to buy this book. However after buying it I soon dropped my skepticism. With the author's in-depth explainations of key concepts, he not only goes over what each particular line of code does, but he also goes over some concepts to help you use your code better!

Just by reading I got all my questions answered and found that programming was really very easy to learn once you got the right teacher =D. I'll definitely buy the rest of the C++ books that Jesse Liberty makes!

Summary: A Beginners Bible on C++
Review: This is a great book! It does not get much better than this. Also, Mr. Liberty fully supports this book online. I emailed him a question online about a specific topic from the book last night and I got an very comphrehensive answer from him this morning. You can't ask for better service than that! Mind you, C++ is not an easy concept. But this book with its detailed examples and its online support from its author makes it perhaps the best C++ primer out there. You may or may not finish this book in 21 days; but when you finish it, you will understand and be able to program in C++. My only experience in programming was in BASIC back in high school some 12 years ago. Just yesterday, I have just made from scratch a simple basic Math program in C++ and I am only on Day 10. I can't say enough good things about this book.

Summary: Wonderful book to learn C++
Review: I have had a background in C (although pretty rusty after a few years) and I found this book to be a very easy way to learn C++. Examples are clear and Mr. Liberty seemed to think ahead of the questions the readers had and would often answer then in the next couple of pages.

I would recommend this book to anyone wishing to learn C++.

Summary: Probably the best book on programming ever
Review: I have read quite a lot of books on programming before picking up this book. I thought that Id better learn C++. It works, It really works. Im through 2/3 of the book now and I started studying some 12 days ago. If you want to learn programming and don't have time to go to a taught course, buy this book you wont regret it (or buy the complete compiler edition if you dont have a compiler ready). I only wrote this review because some other reviewers gives it bad marks, but the book they are refering to is not the same book Im reading.....

Summary: Simply BRILLIANT
Review: This book is brilliant. Im a 14 year old boy and I wanted to learn how to programme in C++. I found this book excellent, it goes into great detail and explains each piece of code excellently. 5 out of 5!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent for beginners to intermediates
Review: This book is great for beginners to intermediate C++ program. The author, Jesse Liberty, has begun the book assuming no prior knowledge or programming, and has progressively taught the syntax and logic of the C++ language. He does this by using a combination of writings, and further explains the ideas by publishing the source code of small programs. If you are still confused about any aspect of the language that is presented in the book, the author provides a discussion board to post questions, where he himself answers the questions. Great suppourt, and a must for beginners in programming.
