Rating: Summary: The best Oracle9i new features overview Review: As an Oracle instructor, I am always on the lookout for good books on cutting-edge topics. Mr. Freeman has really come through on this one.The text has lots of clear working examples, and does not obfuscate the issues with terse jargon. I use this book in all my Oracle9i new features classes, and I highly recommend it for any experienced Oracle professional who wants to learn the new features of Oracle9i.
Rating: Summary: No good for certification Review: Don't rely on this book for certification, concepts are hazy, not explained clearly, a lot is left out. Not bad for a guide to new features but overall I didn't like it.
Rating: Summary: Very good book with enough examples Review: Good Explanations with examples. If you are good at oracle 8i administration, to catch up with new features I would recommend this book. I tried reading the oracle9i new features manual - it was too dry. I will be using this book for my oracle 9i certification upgrade. Go for it !
Rating: Summary: Great! Just the facts with small examples Review: Got this book today finally! From what I have read I like the writer's style and approach. No fluff, just here's what you were looking for.. the new features. Many books waste precious trees explaining to dbas what a tablespace is. This book doesn't. I recommend this book to any dba just moving to 9i or considering it.
Rating: Summary: An excellent 9i reference book. Review: I bought this book after reading reviewing the reviews on this board and was not a bit disappointed. This is a very good 9i reference book and i used it to pass by 9i DBA certification. Even otherwise, this is an excellent 9i reference book which provides most of the information realted to the new 9i features in a concise, accurate way in one place. A must have for anyone who is looking to get familiar with the new 9i features. Kudos to the author
Rating: Summary: Not as good as it could have been..... Review: I didnt think this book was as good as some others seem to think. Not all new features are included, some are skirted over and I have discovered many infuriating errors (eg on creating an spfile you dont startup the database by pointing to it with the 'pfile=' parameter as it says on page 33). I wouldnt rely solely on this book to pass the ocp exam.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book to use to Upgrade your Certification to 9i. Review: I used this Book, and Oracle 9i Database:New features for Administrators by Daniel Benjamin as a Good Reference book with a few errors. And I passed my exam on 12/31/02 scoring correctly 49 out of a possilbe 53 Questions.
Rating: Summary: Freeman the man! Review: I've been using Freeman's books for OCP upgrades in the past and they were good. This time he hasn't written an OCP book, I still got this one hoping to use it as a supplemental training material. Let's make it clear - it is not an OCP upgrade guide! It doesn't provide any practice questions and doesn't follow the test objectives closely enough. But as a new features overview this book is really nice. It gives you an impression that you met this guy somewhere in the office and he got a minute to tell you about the 9i. The book is easy to read, full of humor. It is also not too long and it took me one evening to read it. But, frankly, some topics are just barely mentioned. Overall, it's a great starting point to learn about 9i.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: If your going to Fairleigh Dickinson University and your taking up Oracle New Features will need this book
Rating: Summary: good book, but don't depend on this for your OCP exam Review: It is a good book. But if you are planning to give OCP Oracle 9i new features exam read other book also.
