Rating: Summary: Too many ERRORS Review: At one time there were some reviews here that detailed some of the many errors in this book. The errors were both technical (some were typos, but some where just incorrect information) and errors in grammar. Most errors in grammar are easily ignored, but there are so many in this book that they became a distraction to studying the material. However, the technical errors are much more likely to cause problems if you are using this book to study for the Server+ exam. Especially, the errors in the question and answer parts of the book (and there are many).
Rating: Summary: is a good overview Enough? Review: This is the only book I read before taking the Server+ test. It is a very good overview of all the areas on the test. Is that enough?I was NOT impressed with the sample tests on the cd. The questions in the sample test only seamed to check if you read the book. Not if you understood the book. I would have liked to see sample questions that ask questions in a different way than how described in the book to see if you really understand what is being said in the book. I passed the test. I have 6+ years working on pc's and servers, I have passed other Certification tests: A+, MCP, CNA, Compaq, HP, IBM, and Dell. I feel my experience also had a lot to do with my passing the test. The book did help get me thinking for the test and in an area or 2 that I needed to work on. Good Luck.
Rating: Summary: Serious Errors Found Review: There are some serious errors in the text AND the Questions and Answers. Please be careful if you are using this book. If something doesn't sound right, look it up in another location.
Rating: Summary: Who is "A Reader" Review: I have read this book and agree that it is a good book and well writen, however, I have also read the reviews and am somewhat entrigued! There are a lot of reviews by "a reader", not all that unusual I know but for example the latest review (19/8) by "a reader" says "The best book on the market......... saved me money by only having to buy one book" - how do they know then that it is the best on the market? Other comments by "a reader" - "Everything you need to know for the exam" (10/8) - I have been working in the IT training industry for over 8 years now, and I have never come across a book that can tell you everything you need to know for an exam - it takes experience and practice as well as additional reading! "Best for studying points..... however I have not taken the exam" 25/7 - if "a reader" has not taken the exam how do they know it is the best? "A reader" 2/8 - seems a bit upset that someone has actually criticised any part of the book - even though in my opinion the comments on typos and "mistakes" is genuine. I am in no doubt that the book is very useful and will help a great number of people, but surely this review area is meant for genuine opinions on books by genuine readers
Rating: Summary: Great even for beginners Review: I have only been in the computer field just over a year. I found this book well written, and easy for someone like me who is new in the computer field to understand. This book covered the information on the test very well. Thanks to this book I passed on the first attempt. If it helped me pass, it will help you too.
Rating: Summary: Check it out! Review: I used this book as my only study material and I passed. A pass is a pass so I'm happy. In my opinion the book was worth the money. Check it out and see for yourself.
Rating: Summary: I passed!! Review: The best one on the market. Overall, the book and the enclosed CD were helpful in preparing me for the CompTIA Server+ exam. I scored a 95! I have been working with network servers for 3 months now so I was going into this exam with some experience and needed a good book to help specifically narrow down the exam objectives for me. The Server+ Certification Bible helped me tremendously. The author is great at making it clear and easy for you to read and understand. I am really happy I passed with only using one text book. Thanks, it saved me tons of money not having to retake the exam.
Rating: Summary: Fun Read Review: I won't go over what most have already said, which I think is fair. What stands out is that the author can break down sometimes complex or dry subjects into easily digestible bites, yet keeping the interest from waning. For those that find the whole system of servers intimidating, this book certainly will dispell that notion straightaway, from the first chapter to the last. Add the wonderful Boson test engine and you have a winner. Heartily recommended.
Rating: Summary: Good book but practice questions poor... Review: The "Server+ Certification Bible by Trevor Kay" is a good review to acquire the basis but the final test and the boson test are not adapted to the actual exam. I take the comptia server+ exam today, and i failed : only 59 %. My thinking about the exam: whouuuu it is hard , more ambiguous ,and less technical than the network+ or inet+!
Rating: Summary: The only book you will need! Review: I took the exam August 6th and passed with no problems. The best part about this book is it stresses that it is important to know the right answer, but it's more important to know why the answer is right. Everything, and I mean everything you need to know for the exam is in this book plus more! Was well worth the money and I highly recommend this study guide.
