Review: This book is not some purely theoretical work, but a very practical book from THE expert on this subject. Don Burleson has tons of HANDS-ON experience, and VAST EXPERIENCE with Oracle. You won't find a more competent expert in the field.

Review: This book is somewhat mis-titled as a STATSPACK book. Instead the book is a superb overall view of Oracle tuning using STATSPACK.The concepts are presented clearly and elegantly, and the supplemental scripts are very useful. This is a great book to add to your collection that you will actually use.

Summary: Comprehensive tuning approach
Review: This is much more than just a STATSPACK book, and it gives an excellent approach to overall Oracle tuning. I was disappointed that it did not cover the spreport, but it makes up for the deficiency by providing a great way to track Oracle performance over time periods. The approach is sound and the text is clear and understandable.
