Rating: Summary: Fantastic learning tool, a book that speaks in plain English Review: Prior to my jump into Visual basic I had no previous Programming Experience. This Dummy book is so easy to understand and use that I would recommend it to anyone who even thinks they may have an interest in learning Visual Basic. The accompanying code that comes on the CD is a plus too. You gotta get it.
Rating: Summary: mediocre book don't buy it until you have VB 6.0 installed Review: The book is below average as far as instruction andlay-out. Worst of all you still need to shell out for the EDUCATIONALVERSION of VB 6.0. SAVE YOUR MONEY -skip this one and get a book, atthe local community college.
Rating: Summary: NOT for BEGINNERS Review: This book is NOT for beginners. All it has is a whole lot of code and no real world examples of how it is used. The book also has about 1/2 of the content about designing a user interface but that is the least important. It is easy to get stuck with this book and there are better books available that really for beiginners and teach concepts of Visual Basic much better. It is an OK book if you just want to memorize lines of code.
Rating: Summary: Showcase Of Learning Visual Basic... Review: This book is the showcase for learning Visual Basic. Comes with Blow to Blow action to give the reader a better understanding to writing code. The topics are designed to give you a heads up view, and have fun learning about Visual Basic. After reading this book, I'm convinced it's ranked in the top 5 for learning this subject. The author relays great tips for starting out, and sets the stage for more advanced topics in other books to "leap frog" your way into developing your own applications.
Rating: Summary: Very Introductory Knowledge Only Review: This book is very good if you have -ZERO- experience with programming in Visual Basic. Keep one thing in mind, though - Do not think that this book alone will get you where you need to be to be able to program effectively. This book does a great job of introducing the program, but it lacks the ability to get you up and running like many other books I purchased for just that reason. This book will get you to the point where you can understand some of the "drier" materials out there. You will understand what Visual Basic is all about, but I personally don't believe it can get you on your feet right away. Examples are good, but impractical. As with any book, I would not advise trying to copy the code verbatim. Rather, gain an understanding of what the code is supposed to do and follow the example to get to where you want to be. I would recommend this book if you are sitting on the fence trying to decide if you might be able to program in Visual Basic. I did just that. I was unsure if I would be able to do this since I only programmed in BASIC as a kid and PASCAL for one semester in High School. After reading this, I realized that it might be okay. Then, I bought other books and because of this one, the others made sense. I hope you found this helpful.
Rating: Summary: Only buy if your a dummy Review: This book teaches you the VERY basic of BASIC. I got almost got zero out of this book. It only teaches you very simple and worthless programs. Only buy if you know zip about programing. The only thing I really liked abot his book are the funny little comics.
Rating: Summary: What A Waste Of Time Review: This book was one of the most worthless I have ever read. Even if you have never used visual basic before, after reading this book you will still be the same as when you started, ignorant. I advise no one to buy this book if they actually want to learn VB5. You are better off just trying to learn on your own than reading this book.
Rating: Summary: Great Foundation Review: This is a great book for the total beginner to Visual Basic. It assumes you know nothing. To the people that wrote stuff like "this book was ok, but it only had the basics" - then buy a book that wasn't intended for beginners! This was written for the TOTAL beginner, it starts at the bottom and explains things in a very simplistic fashion.

The book is funny - great jokes which make the reading interesting. If you have read a "For Dummies" book you will know how easy they are to understand, and this is no exception.
