Rating: Summary: What a book !!!!! Review: A few weeks ago I was given a project written in Visual Basic to complete in 2 months. I panicked since I never programmed in Visual Basic. So I bought this book from amazon.com, and found it to be the greatest book on this topic. I reviewed many books and actually bought a few, but this one saved my career. It was very easy reading and funny too. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in programming Visual Basic, for their job or just for fun.
Rating: Summary: This is a great start to learning VB programming. Review: Even if you have no programming experience, if you are familiar with Windows applications and their basic characteristics, you can learn a lot from this book. Minor experience with Visual Basic is a plus as this book will polish the skills you already have and teach you the logic behind object-oriented application development in terms most of us can understand. Those who have had major exposure to VB however, should not buy this book. It will not make you a VB expert.
Rating: Summary: A great guide for those with NO experience Review: Except for some dabbling on the old Commodore 64 many many moons ago my programming experience is zap. This book has started me on the VB track. My husband who is a professional code cutter believes this book is excellent for those starting out.
Rating: Summary: Good Starting Point Review: For any beginner, this book is great. If you have no clue what BASIC is and don't know the difference between a module and a procedure, this book is great.Although this probably won't get you at the expert level, it is a great beginning for anyone. It is much simpler than Microsoft's documentation and will definitely get you off on the right foot if you want something easy to start you off.

Rating: Summary: Solid for Start Review: For real programmers and serious VB developers, this is definetely far from being enough. However, for begginers in VB this is useful guide. The only thing I mind is that there is a focus on GUI rather than code itself but that is what this book teaches you--just basic understanding. I wouldn't be able to write serious program for my company by reading only this book. If you have experience with programming get higher level book and you will be able to pick it up. I suggest VB and VBA from O'Reilly or Garry Cornell's VB 6 from Ground Up...
Rating: Summary: This book is fantastic! Review: I decided to learn VB on my own, a lot of people have, and so I took a book home from the library and started reading. I was asleep 3 minutes later. But since I had a genuine desire to learn the program I bought VB for Dummies and to my surprise the book is just fantastic. I've become a fan of the ...For Dummies books just because of this book. If you are serious about learning Visual Basic, then there is no better place to start.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book for Absolute Beginners Review: I did not have any experience on VB before. But after reading this book I not only got the basic knowledge of VB 6 but also started making my own programs that I used in my office practically. This is excellent book for beginners. It opens your way to go ahead and look for advance books on the same topic. I highly recommend this book for those who want to learn VB6 in two to three weeks.
Rating: Summary: Good but not Review: I found this book GREAT for learning visual basic if you are an ABSOLUTE beginner. Which I am, or thanks to this book, was. If you want a book on learning VB6 without having to slave at it, this is great. The tutorials and the practice software on the CD was also great. Although two things went wrong and only 2: 1) When they start to talk about Class Modules, The last chapter and second to last chapter (12 and 13) should be in the total reverse order. 12 talks about the complications of Class Modules and 13 talks about the simple stuff. 2) This uses code statments that can be used 2 different ways. IE: They talk about "End" and "Unload Me", even though Microsoft never mentions the "Unloade ME" statment because Microsoft never uses it! But, all and all, this is a great book. If you are starting VB right as you are reading this, VB for Dummies if for you.
Rating: Summary: Very useful for beginners Review: I found this is a very useful and detailed tutorial for beginning to program in VB 6. Very good start, if you want to jump in VB programming and you know just a little about coding.
