Summary: Very good practical book on .NET
Review: This is a great book. The hard work the author put into to this book is apparent with the high quality of the information. The examples start out simple and build into code that could be used in real world applications. Complex concepts are explained in a clear and understandable fashion. I have revisited several sections as a reference while working in .NET. An e-book of the text comes with the book. This is very helpful to have the text of the book only a few clicks away. I have read many .NET books. This is one of the best.

Summary: Excellent book
Review: This is a great place to start for anyone looking to learn .net. Whether you're looking to read the book cover to cover, or you need a good, solid reference, this book is excellent.

This book covers many aspects of .net vital to any developer really looking to devote thier time to .net development. Most of the samples are written in C#, making it easy for C++ developers to make the transition (It even includes some managed C++ sample code). It's also easy for a VBScript developer to transition, as it is easy to read, concise, yet descriptive.

This book starts with CIL and ends with remoting, web services, and multi-threading, and makes sure to cover a large amount of information inbetween. It's a great "Hands-on" book, and primes you to dive right into development.

KUDOS! Excellent book!

Summary: Best "Programming" Book on .NET
Review: This is much more than an okay book. It's simply the very best "programming" book on .NET. Once you've learned your .NET language of choice, which really should be C#, then you need a book like this one to explore and understand the .NET Framework. Trust me, you will not find a better one. I know, I've tried at least 6 other books of this scope. Yes, it does concentrate much more ASP.NET, so much so that I consider it also the best ASP.NET book out there. It's obviously not an advanced-level book, so you'll need to explore the subject further.

The main reason I like this book is because the writing is just so crystal clear and well organized. This author knows how to teach. Concepts flow from general to details superfluously. And the examples are so well chosen that it's a pleasure to read.

After having bought, and read or reviewed a good number of books on .NET, I feel I have a good sense as to which are the very best. The following four books are what I consider to be the creme de la creme of .NET publications:

1) C# Primer Plus, should be your first read;
2) This one, should be your second read;
3) Microsoft .NET for Programmers, read this after you've explored the framework further;
4) Programming .NET Components, the deepest clearest book on .NET I've seen by far - intermediate-advanced.

There are other excellent .NET books. I could name at least 8 others that deserve 4 to 5 stars. The above 4 deserve 5 star ratings more any other, or at least I've not found any others that use C#.

Summary: Another excellent book by prosise
Review: when i decide to learn .net. I search good book in bookstore, when I found this book, I bought it without any hesitation, because Jeff Prosise is one outstanding writer and had written some very excellent book, such as his famous "programming windows with MFC".
It didn't disappoint me, I read it carefully and learn much from it. This book cover many .net programming topics, such as windows form, web form and web service, and I bielieve it can give your a solid foundation on .net programming.
prosise's writing style is concise ,clear and easy-accessibility. He can tell you many complex things using simple,straightforward words. It is really an happy experience that reading this excellent book.
