Summary: Tons of great information, but 1400 pages!
Review: Only for those who really want to go into some serious, serious depth about Word. If you don't have the time (or the strength), I'd try something like "Just the tips, man for Microsoft Word 2000", or even the Dummies book on the subject. Both of those, especially the first one, cut to the chase a lot more and aren't nearly as intimidating (or as expensive).

Summary: Mixed Value
Review: The book adds little to what is easier and more thoroughly gotten from help screens.

It does not note several serious flaws such as the imposition of the Master Document template on subdocuments as they are inserted. The result can be disasterous reconstruction of the format of the imported document.

If you have subdocuments formatted under separate templates or under Word 97 there is no way to recover the desired formats. Microsoft tells me that Word 2002 will correct this problem. In the meantime stick with Word 97.

If you wish to use a Master Document, create the Master Document first and then create the subdocuments using the Master Document template and be leary of changes to the template as subdocuments are created. If you do this, I suppose all of the marvelous features will work as advertised. I haven't tried it yet.

Summary: Worh my investment.
Review: This book has no compittion as of today. Plus, this books covers pretty much everything you want to do using Word2k. The writing style is excellent and it is also very useful to have the entire book in PDF.

I strongly recommend this book to anybody who is remotely interested in using MS-Word2000.

Let's give a big hand to Bill for doing such an excellent job in producing this mammoth book in just under 1400 pages.

Summary: Exactly What I Need!
Review: This book is proving to be exactly what I need in order to go from being proficient to being ADVANCED with MS Word. The lay-out and design caught my eye immediately; I'm really impressed with how the manual is structured. The writing style is friendly and uncomplicated. I was pleased to discover that Bill included details and instructions which were omitted in the Word '97 version. So far, I've found complete and accurate answers to every question I've had. I love the projects at the end of each chapter! And the "Tips from Bill Camarda" are very, very cool.

No wonder Bill's name moved from the bottom right-hand corner of the Word '97 book to the top left-hand corner of this Word 2000 book! He deserves the recognition and the accolades. I'd sure want my name in big letters on the cover if I wrote this book!

Summary: Good book but I am still looking for more
Review: This book was good but I am still looking for a book for very serious Word users that want to know the limitations of Word as well as the possibilities. This book read a little too much like Word 2000 could do just about anything (this is hardly the case).

I did like the sample projects at the end of each chapter. The projects were simple, applicable and illustrated some good points. I did learn many things from this book, but in developing some fairly sophistocated templates I found a lot of deficiencies or omissions with the book (eg: I thought more could be said about templates).

I think this book is great for a general Word user but a Word developer needs more.

Summary: Buy This Book, You Won't Be Sorry
Review: This is a superb book for Word users at any level. Typically users evolve as they begin to use the more difficult and useful feature, this book stays with you every step of the way. The grey shaded tips are particularly useful as they provide helpful hints to make usage easier. The book is logically formatted and well-worded, Bill Camarda's style is conversational rather than pedantic. Thumbs up!
