Perhaps a more accurate statement instead of picked up a copy would be: I rented a crane and hoisted up a copy of this 1400+ page gorrilla. This book is actually quite useful because when you're done reading it, you can take it to your local bowling alley and let it serve as a surrogate bowling ball. Forget joining a health club to lift weights, just pick up a copy of this puppy, turn a few pages....you be in pain for weeks! All seriousness aside, this is perhaps the best book ever written on Word2000. Camarda really did his homework and it shows. It is gratifying to actually buy something these days and acquire some value along the way for your hard earned bucks. Everything you can possibly think of to do with Word is included and thoroughly explained; the Net, templates, intelligence, etc... You won't get through this book eating a Cheeseburger on a boring Saturday night, believe me. Prepare to do some serious study and look forward to several weeks of focused study. Nicely laid out, good color contrast to prevent eye-strain...in depth explanation...you won't be sorry you bought this book.

Review: I am always reluctant to buy third-party books because they often end up taking up space and collecting dust in my office. This is because I use them to learn a few techniques and discover other ways to use the software without using the book. With that in mind, I checked this book out of the library to learn a specific technique. As I used the book to create a complicated merge document, I also used Word's online Help and found that the book explained the process more accuratly and simpler. Now it's due back to the library and I realize I will need to refer to this book a lot more than the dust collectors that I have. (One of them is an older Que book.) I am ordering this huge, informative book today.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent as a reference or in-depth tour of Word Review: I considered myself a Word expert, but in this book I immediately uncovered a number of features that make my Word life easier. I have solved some of my long-standing Word problems and I have started to imagine ways I can use some of Word's more powerful features. Word can be so frustrating sometimes, but this book really alleviates that, making me appreciate Word's good side again. I choose to use this book as a reference. It is well organized, clearly indexed, and includes helpful cross-references throughout the text. There are also hundreds of tips, notes and cautions, though visually these are so numerous they are distracting. I think a person could also read this book cover to cover as an excellent in-depth tour of Word. I haven't explored the CD yet, but I am enjoying the book so much that I am willing to risk a muscle strain to lug it back and forth between home and office.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent source of Word information Review: I have been a serious Word user for years and also work as a software tech support specialist for a state government office (100+ staff). Our office migrated from WordPerfect Office to MS Office 2000 shortly after it debuted. I acquired this book (and several others in the series - Access, Excel) to learn about the new features and to have as a reference for staff. Bill Camarda has done an excellent job researching and writing this book. Certainly the best that I have ever used (and I have used many!). Even staff who normally shy away from large tomes like this 1400+ page monster have come back over and over again to borrow it. Same with my Excel 2000 and Access 2000 books from this same Que series. So now I am ordering several copies of each of these volumes to put in our reference center, so I can get MY copies back! An excellent reference book both for new and intermediate/advanced users. I highly recommend it.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Final Word on Using Word 2000 Review: I have been an intense Word user for years and colleagues, clients, and friends have often called upon me to answer their questions about how to use Word more effectively and efficiently. It wasn't until I purchased this book that I discovered that I had only cracked the surface of this powerful tool and that Bill Camarda knew the territory completely and laid out a complete map to the entire application. For example, over the years, I have spent untold hours in document review and editing that I always felt should be able to be done much quicker than the way I had been doing it. Within two hours of purchasing the book I found very expedient solutions to problems that have plagued me for years. I have found a multitude of other time and money saving tips as I have continued to read my way through the text. This book is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to use. Compare that with any other application manual or book that you have purchased and I think you will agree with me that this book is one great tool. One of the things I really like about this book is the projects that Bill has created to help the reader really internalize the material as he presents it. By doing the projects I know that I will be able to do similar projects in the future without having to refer back to the book. Another great feature of this book is that, on the enclosed CD, it includes a free copy of a piece of software for which I was going to buy Woody's Office Power Pack. Since the book didn't cost that much in the first place, the bundling of the software was a real bargain.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Good Average User Book Review: I liked this book quite a bit. It is a good "user's guide" to Microsoft Word 2000, and it is very thorough. The coverage of all the bigger topics (Mail Merge, Web Pages, Formatting) is pretty much right on point and easy to follow. My only concern is that the book wouldn't be good for beginners (Word 2000 for Dummies by Dan Gookin is best in this category), and wouldn't cover the needs of advanced users (Learn Word 2000 VBA Document Automation by Scott Driza is best in this category). All in all, it's a great book - very easy to read, and very comprehensive.
Rating: ![0 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-0-0.gif) Summary: A relentless focus on making you more productive with Word Review: I truly appreciate your considering my book on Word 2000. Special Edition Using Word 2000 might just be the most detailed book about Word ever written -- and all 1,400 pages have a single goal: to help you become more productive and effective. I've tried to include step-by-step, detailed help with virtually anything you'll ever want to do with Word, from writing a book to building a Web site, creating a newsletter to streamlining your document review process. Wherever there's an opportunity to save time using Word's document automation features, you'll learn about it here -- after all, who wants to spend one more minute on a project than you have to? All in all, I've added some 400 new pages to the previous edition, deepening its coverage pretty much everywhere, and paying special attention to... * Thoroughly covering Word 2000's souped-up Web capabilities: you'll find 100+ pages of Word 2000 web/intranet site-building coverage, nearly all of it new * Adding more business-focused coverage and document examples * Providing some 20 detailed projects that walk you through some of the most challenging document production tasks you're likely to encounter * Word document security -- including how to avoid macro viruses! * Just about the most detailed coverage of Word 2000's new multilingual features you'll find anywhere * Hundreds of new productivity and troubleshooting tips * A complete field reference In addition to all this, Que has provided a CD-ROM with more than 1,500 pages of up-to-the-moment Office 2000 info: Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher & FrontPage -- plus a complete, fully-licensed copy of WOPR, the world's #1 Office add-in! Finally, and I hope the most important advantage: this is now my 5th book on Word. Over the last ten years I've spent a *lot* of time watching people work with Word - seeing what they understand, what confuses them, and what they *really* need to know to get results. This time around, I've also had the help of a truly awesome team of technical and editorial professionals at Que, all of whom use Word eight (make that 16!) hours a day, and are truly experts even though they don't get bylines. I've worked hard to reflect all of our Word experience here. I'm proud of how this book turned out, and I sincerely hope you'll find it valuable. Many thanks for considering it.
