Rating: Summary: Riddled With Errors Review: Was this book written in a day? Syntax errors, spelling errors, and general misinformation abound. Perhaps the author intended readers to learn XML by debugging his examples?
Rating: Summary: Good Book but too large Review: This a very good for the beginners , however , I think the whole material can be a lot compacted and the book can be of 300-400 pages instead of 800 pages and would have given the same information.Any way it atleast worth one reading for the guys who have just started learning xml.
Rating: Summary: A Great Beginning Book for the XML Novice Review: One thing to remember about this book before you buy: It is a "Beginning XML Book," NOT a "Beginner" book. You are going to need some knowledge of data management, file management, and web page development to understand the groundwork for XML development. However, if you do have basic ASP, SQL, and HTML skills like I do, then this book is a great start if you want to add XML to your skillset. As with all Wrox books published over the last two years, this book is well-structured, well-written, and well-indexed. It will teach you more than you need to know for XML basics, and you can use the book as a reference down the road. I waited for this book to come out all summer, and it was well worth the price and time I put into it. Good job, Wrox!
Rating: Summary: Great place to start with XML Review: I think this book and Step by Step XML are the 2 best books for starting off with XML. I have bought or read many if not most of the XML books that are the most popular. Hint: dont start with XML for dummies, buy this book and Step by Step XML, you will be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Introduction to XML and related technologies Review: This is a good introductory book on XML. Covers basics as the name implies and also covers ground level details on the related technologies like XSL, XPath, XML Schema, etc.
Rating: Summary: Good effort, but sentences unclear at critical points Review: I think this a good book on XML. You need previous programming experience (preferably Java), which authors fail to alert in the beginning. It is not like learning HTML. Many times, half a sentence says one thing and the other half contradicts the first half. Sometimes, at critical locations, it is impossible to figure what the author is trying to say. While writing, do not assume that the readers know what in your mind is. Please write clear/simple sentenses. Figures could be used to explain concepts rather than writing a paragraph. The book needs editing. Content-wise, the book is great.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding XML Book! Review: After a disappointing purchase of one XML book (XML By Example), I was on a search to find one that I considered relevant and informative. Let me tell you that this is the book. Explanations are clear and concise and are brought to real-world examples. The book is organized very well with all of the major topics being discussed (DOM, XSLT, etc.). David does an outstanding job at painting a picture of the wide array of uses that XML provides to web and application developers.
Rating: Summary: Beginning XML Hooray! Review: This is one of the best reference manuals I have ever read (and I've read lot's of them!!!!). I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn, or may already know XML. Lot's of relevant information in an easy to follow format. Good Job, David hunter and friends!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: This book is wonderful.... so good I felt I had to stop reading and spread the word.... back to XML!
Rating: Summary: Excellent straightforward way to learn XML from scratch Review: Having read quite a few XML books from Wrox (5-6), I think that this book will be able to touch the biggest audience. It contains a very good approach to learn about XML well-formed documents, CSS for XML, XSL(T), DTD, and it also have some nice Case-Studies that goes along. Hey, you even have an introduction to ASP and another one for HTML; for those of you new to the Internet. Most of the XML books (straight one, not XML for VB for example) contains the same TOC but this one has the best approach so far. If you are new to XML, take this one. If you know a bit of XML (and PROGRAMMED it), you can take the Professional XML which will go a little bit more in depth (not that much) If you know what you are doing with XML and wants to learn more about XSLT, get the XSLT Programmer's Reference(great book) from Wrox. If you want a very good Case-Study, take the Professional XML Design and Implementation (also good). Then you are off with ASP XML, VB XML, or Java XML. Happy XML hunting.
