Summary: Excellent!
Review: Well, I bought it and have began reading it and I'd have to say that I'm very pleased. It seems to cover all of the material on the practice tests that I've seen and it does a good job explaining everything. It has a pre-test so you can determine what your strong or weak areas are right off the bat.

Very nice. :-)

Summary: You could do better with your time and money.
Review: The book is really bad. The writer jumps around, without a coherent line of thought. Doesn't give enough attention to important topics, while he can ramble on and on about a trivial point. I identified some attempts at humor.

Summary: Overated Bigtime
Review: This book is advertised as an A+ cram book. It is nothing of the sort and doesn't even cover the exam domains well enough to pass. Especially Windows NT. Hope you have lots of lots of time. Your going to need it with this book. I have five years experience with PC's. I needed a small book to help me focus on the exam objectives quickly. There are better resourses that are better rated than this book.
Good Luck...

Summary: Could be more concise
Review: This book has all the information you need to pass the test, unfortunately it has a lot of information you don't need as well. I passed both the Core and OS exam in two consecutive days but I have computer experience. I would probably reccommend using a smaller, more concise study guide for novice/aspiring techs.

Summary: The Truth about this book
Review: This book is not what is all cracked up to be concerning the A+ exam. For example the new A+ exam has a bunch of NT 4
questions on it, but this book only scratches the surface and will not help you pass these NT questions on the real exam. I found this book totally lacking focus for the real A+ exam. There are only a few post chapter test questions for chapter review that is totally lame compared to other A+ study guides that have at least 15 to 20 post chapter practice questions.

There are NO A+ exam objectives present in this text whatsoever, so you don't know if what you are memorizing is something
you will actually see on the real exam! The book is over 1100 pages and a little bit big concerning only 50% of the real exam
is actually listed in this book (but it doesn't tell you that)

...

The book is good at teaching you about computer hardware but it is not that exam focused.

Mike Meyers does not focus on what is on the real exam he wants you to memorize all 1100+ pages!

This book is totally over rated.

I recommend a book that is more exam focused because this one isn't! ...

Summary: Well explained
Review: The writing style made some difficult topics easy understandings and some tediious topics interesting to read!

I am reading this book not just for the certification, but also really want to learn something and have some fun. I found that many other books were too concise to learn something because their only focus was the exam. Do I just want a paper certification? Absolutely not. That is the major reason why I liked this book.

Going to buy the Network+ book from the author.

Summary: Too big for exam preperation
Review: This book was too for being advertised an exam prep book. It took me four weeks and i am only half way through. I forgot most of what I studied already. It would be more usefull if it were really updated for the new exams and condensed to meet today's hectic schedules.

Thank you,

Summary: investing in books
Review: A+ certification book from Michael Meyers is an excellent book.
The book explains everything about PC and it also talks about the A+ certification exams. I find this book very detail, simple to follow and easy to understand and I would consider it as a great investment in my future.

Summary: Thanks for the help
Review: Just 1 week of skimming the pages of this well written book was enough for me to pass the test. I applaude Mike's easy and concise writing style. He also has a good sense of humor that didn't make it so dry.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great book, but quite large!
Review: I read this book and learned a lot about PCs and operating systems. Perhaps the best thing about the book is the many diagrams that guide the reader through the concepts. I was weak on the hardware side of PCs, but this book filled in the gaps in my knowledge.

Unfortunately, the book is huge. It is hard to study for the exams because it takes a long, long time to study a book of this size. I forgot some of the things from the first part of the book by the time I got to the last part of the book. You might want to consider using a short study guide to prep for the exam after working through this book.

My advice for the A+ exams: Be sure to pause after the hardware stuff, prep for the exam, take the hardware exam, and then move quickly into studying for the OS stuff. Break it up, otherwise the amount of information can become overwhelming. (I think you have 90 days to take one exam after passing the first).

A great book to learn from. A bit overwhelming because of its depth.
