Summary: where's the 5th ed. Mcgraw-Hill ?
Review: Why Hasn't Mcgraw-Hill released any info on the 5th ed. of this book. If you place a call to the publisher they will tell you it's being released in July. I think they do a disservice to the buying public by not letting us know. Once you buy the 4th ed. your basically stuck wih it ! With Comptia implementing changes (XP and wireless) soon it's only fair that we be kept up to date .

Where is Mike Meyers on all of this ? You've got a lot of followers out there buddy !

Summary: Good general knowledge book, but...
Review: This book should be called "General Computer Fundimentals and History of the PC". This book is very good for general knowledge, was fun to read and a good addition to anyones library. It just seems too oriented to those who have little to no background in the material. It doesn't seem A+ test specific enough to use as the only book for your preparation. I have a lot of experience and the book talks about a lot very very rudimentary things I already know. This made it hard to concentrate on the stuff I needed. If your experienced and want a nice concise review for the exam, this book has too much fluff. An edited version of this book with more focus on the exam would be a homerun. I know NO book can be perfect, the exam throws a lot of "curve balls" and every exam is DIFFERENT. My OS test asked THREE questions about the DOS XCOPY command. How strange to ask so much about something that would be rarely relevant nowadays when the exam is only 20 questions! My CORE test asked no questions on printers, which the sample cd quizzes ask A LOT about, but asked things like how do PDA's communicate with each other (odd?). Those are issues with the test itself, but the point is be prepared!
In summary, if your new to this stuff or have basic knowledge, then GET this book, but ALSO get some more test specific review material. The sample quizzes on the cd are not perfect but extremely helpful to get an idea how the actual test works. Those with extended experience and excellent knowledge looking for just a refresher or exam review should probably skip this.

Summary: Great Book
Review: I'm currently studying for the A+ exam using this book. It is fantastic! It is everything you need to know about the exam covered in an easy to read format. Great pictures/diagrams throughout the book. I also highly recommend getting the lab manual (ISBN # 0072133481) as it provides additional lab work to complete (and it is matched directly to each chapter). Be aware that CompTIA is upgrading the A+ exam in the late 3rd/early 4th quater of 2003, I'm hurring to finish my training and take the exam before that. When the new test objectives are put into place this book (4th edition) will become dated. I'm sure Michael Meyers will put out a new edition at that point and based on my experence with this course I would recommend that as well!

Summary: Bad Bad Bad!
Review: You will fail the A+ exam if you study and go by the practice exams on the cd provided by this book! This book is a joke and should be intended for newbies to the profession. I want my money back Mike Myers!!

Summary: Check Edition!!!
Review: Nice book for those who already know something about computers and want to get certified. Software that comes with it is somewhat buggy. Watch out for what edition you get. Most listings don't sat what edition. Latest one as of this writing is 4TH. 3RD edition doesn't cover Pentium 4 or Windows XP.

Summary: Good for test review
Review: I found this book to be very helpful for practice tests. The book is not organized by test objective which makes it difficult to determine and study only the areas where you need help. The tests themselves are good practice.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great Reference
Review: This book is a super reference. I think, in conjunction with a Transcender exam, this book is number one for the A+ certification!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great Book, Beginner Friendly!
Review: Great book! I use it in school, it's definetly a beginner friendly learning experience! Many other A+ books detur people away from acheiving the certification, and are lengthy in explanation as well as being based on an advanced reader. Micheal Meyers has done an amazing job in writing this book, and preparing YOU for your A+ Certification exams, Good Luck!!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: All I needed to Pass A+ Test
Review: This was the only book I needed to pass both A+ Tests and obtain certification. I will also keep this book handy for future reference. It also has a great CD that comes with it that has lots of practice tests. His tests were much harder than the actual certification test, so I was really ready and did great on the A+ and now Im certified!!!!!!!!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great Book... Highly Recommend
Review: I am currently using the book to study for the A+ Core Hardware and OS exams for CompTIA. It is a great book and Mike Myers does respond to emails! I emailed him asking about data bus widths and how it pertains to RDRAM memory modules/banks and he sent me some great links to investigate.

Great book and author!
