Rating: Summary: I've read 3 and this is the best by far. Review: This is my third A+ book and it's the best by far. Most thorough, best written, best edited. Speaks with the authority of someone who's been doing computer support since the early days of PCs. The index could be more thorough, but it still makes other books look like dirt. That said, you'll still need to do more reading. Based on practice tests from MeasureUp (included with a DVD training mistake - see below), I still have more to learn. As another reviewer mentioned, don't expect that one book will automatically get you that certification. Unless you've been doing PC support for awhile, and not just Windows 2000 or Windows 9x but DOS as well, you are not going to breeze through the tests. Meyers starts out with a questionnaire about your technical experience then gives you an estimate of how long you are going to have to study. A real eye-opener. One other bit of advice, don't go for those DVD based training courses. I did and it would be laughable if I hadn't wasted $350 on it. If you do talk to them, see if they'll give you a satisfaction guarantee - they won't, which should tell you something.
Rating: Summary: This Book is Top Notch for the A+ Review: I recommend this book to anyone who hates reading and has a little to some experience with PC's. This was the first 1200 page book I ever read and I literally read it from cover to cover. The author is very conversational in his writing making the reader feel like they have been in lecture after each chapter. Also, the organization of the book is really effective. Micheal Meyers breaks all chapters into 3 sections: (1) Historical Conceptual - which puts into context how the computers evolved into what they are today, (2) A+ test specific - which dives into the objectives of the test, and (3) Beyond A+ - which isn't anything on the test, but interesting to read. This format makes the flow of the book very manageable and easy to understand. Also the software included is a very good practice test. The look and feel of the software is similar to the CompTIA test. After 4 weeks of studying the book and doing practice tests, I passed both test. I took the tests separatly, but probably could've passed both on the same day. Personally, I've been doing Tier 1 Helpdesk support for 15 months, which may have helped a lot. This book contains a lot of what you need, but I would also recommend studying some exams from www....com. They have many practice tests that have questions similar to those on the test. Good Luck and Thank You Micheal Meyer!

Rating: Summary: Good... for what it is Review: If you are a total beginner, this is the book for you. The author explains the concepts in excellent detail. If you're not too familiar with what is covered on the A+ you will be after reading this. That said, if you already have some experience in the field this book tends to seem long winded and boring. My recommendation would be to take a look at the A+ outlines on cramsession.com (there's an online version you can check out for free) and then if you feel like you need to go over anything, pick up this book. The other thing I found very useful was the CD that comes with it. It has a lot of practice tests with questions that closely mirror what is actually on the A+ test. It's great practice (especially the "adaptive" version that acts like the real test). If you can consistently pass these you're sure to pass the A+. Overall a good buy.
Rating: Summary: Much more than just A+ Review: I love this book. It covers everything you would need to know to pass the A+ exams, and covers even more in great detail. Even if you are a complete newbie, you can learn everything by reading this book. A lot of people complain that there is too much information in this book, but I think it is a good thing, as it helps you gain more understanding of what really is going on under the hood of your PC. This is not just another exam cram book. In fact, I recommend this book to everyone, from total newbies to experienced technicians. even if you are not planning on becoming A+ certified, you will learn a great deal from this book. If you are planning on becoming A+ certified, this book outlines the subjects that will be covered on the tests, and includes many practice tests that will let you know what areas you need to study. For those totally new to computers, you cannot just read this book (or any single book) and expect to pass the exam. I recommend reading this book thoroughly, and then doing at least 6 months of hands-on work with PC hardware / software. Then, read the book again. For those that are experienced technicians and power-users, who have installed memory and hard drives before, or even build PC's, I recommend you just read this book completely to brush up on some details you might know completely, then take the practice tests. When you consistently pass the practice tests, then go take the real exam. You will pass I guarantee.
Rating: Summary: I passed and this book helped a lot! Review: Even though I have been doing PC Support for the last 4 or 5 years, this year my employers decided I needed to be certified. I bought this book even though it was not the current edition it helped alot. It was a lot of reading but the author inserted some comic relief to help. I studied this book for two weeks and passed my certification tests. It doesn't go into Windows XP enough but it gives you a lot on DOS which believe it or not, I still have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. I would recommend this book to anyone getting started in the pc repair industry.

Rating: Summary: A+ certification all-in-one exam guide 4th edtion bunk Review: This book does not cover the new 2003 exam objectives and is therefore obsolute and worthless.
Rating: Summary: only book for A+ Review: I read the book to help me pass my a+. i had no real previous knowledge of pc's b4 this book. as a total beginner, i read the book, studied and passed my A+. not only that i went from not knowing how to remove ram, to building my own pc from scratch and pc's for friends and fam. the A+ certification passport, also buy mike meyers is an ok book, but id stay away from it. anyways, this is the only book id recomend for the A+ exams. the acompanying software is top notch 2. id give it a 10 star rating if i could!
Rating: Summary: A fantastic and comprehensive resource Review: Unlike past certifications, this is the only text I used to prepare for the A+, which was a bit of a gamble for me. To sum it up quickly, I honestly feel that this is the only book that anyone interested in getting their A+ would need to buy. It's well-organized, extremely well-written, and very easy to understand, even when discussing fairly complex topics. My advice is to look no further--study the info listed in this book and you will pass!
