Rating: Summary: A Practical Web Design Guide Review: I personally enjoyed reading this book because it's clear and easy to follow. The information in it is very practical. For example, it gives specific steps to take if one is interested in becoming a freelance web-designer. It also mentions a 5-step process with regards to dealing with clients. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in web design. This goes for those who are thinking about starting their own web design business as well as for those who are planning to work for a company. The author has a very good sense of humor which makes the book even more interesting and fun to read. I liked it so much that I couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: Great book to get the creative juices flowing.... Review: I'm not an expert on making web pages, but I do concider myself creative. This book helped to get the two working together without too much work and less headaches than if I tried to do it alone. There's plenty of information to help you decide the look and feel of your site. Whether it's a kids site, club site or a small business site. There are sound suggestions and notes on what to watch out for and a list of things NOT to do if you want great pages. My son was 10 when he wanted to put up his own site. He's 14 now with at least a dozen sites and this book is on his reference shelf. I can't even get it back from him! Along with the QR HTML 4.1 for Dummies - he's doing amazing sites! I think that if you need some help with how to make attractive and well designed pages that make visitors come back again and again...this book will help you out - hands down!
Rating: Summary: Sam's HTML in 24 hours is WAY BETTER Review: I've used HTML for dummies and found it was way too broad to learn anything. It is simply trying to cover too much at once. I did use SAMS HTML and XHTML in 24 Hours and found it was a lot more comprehensive. So my recommedation is... don't buy this book, go with SAMS's HTML and XHTML. I've learned HTML quickly with that book and now I am a web designer for ProCreative Designs http://www.procreative.ca.
Rating: Summary: WOW! This book covers everything! Review: Web Design for Dummies covers an amazing array of stuff from planning and client management through to creative strategies, production, and even how to manage your own consulting business. What I found most insightful was the way Lisa covers the entire web design workflow- showing you the entire creative process, even user testing. This book is a must read for any designer! Thanks Lisa
Rating: Summary: Great depth, yet easy to read and use Review: Web Design for Dummies packs an impressive amount of information in an easy-to-use format. The ample screen shots show you what to do, while the many tip/warning icons provide time-saving ideas. But what I like best about it is that overall it helps break down the *process* of designing web sites. That way, you can see how the pros construct great sites, using a realistic workflow. It helps you focus on designing sites one piece at a time, which is quite empowering. Whether you are simply browsing for ideas or you are working through a chapter in depth, this book will not disappoint!
