Rating: Summary: If you want to know Unix, buy this book Review: This book not only covers the major Unix derivates (except for Linux), it is written in an easy to read, but still condensed style. However what this book distinguishes from other books, e.g. the (also very good) Sun Solaris MacMillan books, is that the authors are experienced sysadmins themselfs, talking about real world problems in huge environments. What I appreciated very much, was the appendix on problems and cases that really happend. Overall a great book. If you are serious about Unix, read it.
Rating: Summary: A "must-have"!! Review: Anyone who has to deal with the administration of UNIX systems must have this book. The authors, who are obviously seasoned administrators who have been around the block at least a couple of times, manage to cover almost every subject important to the life of a UNIX system administrator, without skimping on the details. This book applies to any UNIX or UNIX-like system in general, but specific examples are provided for six of the most popular "flavors" of UNIX. The book also includes plenty of real-life examples help to illustrate the points they make. This book is perfect for those of you who are into "free" UNIXes, such as Linux, FreeBSD, and the new "free" releases of Solaris and SCO. So, do not pass GO, do not collect $200, but click on that little order button now and order yourself a copy right away! Hell, buy two copies -- you'll be thumbing through this one so often, that your first copy won't even last a couple months before falling apart!
Rating: Summary: The illustrations are wonderful! Review: The book is great, as everyone knows, but the illustrations are too good for words. I wish they had t-shirts!
Rating: Summary: EXCELLANT RESOURCE!!!!! Review: This book has proven its worth for me many times over. Any sys admin will find it useful and easy to understand. The only caveat is that some of the OS's referenced are out dated, though I am sure the 3rd edition will correct that.
Rating: Summary: A MUST-HAVE for any sysadmin. Review: I'm new at sysadministration and BSDi and this book has helped my a lot. It's the kind of the book that any sysadmin must have on his shelf.
Rating: Summary: HANDS DOWN THE BEST UNIX SYSTEM ADMIN. BOOK AROUND! Review: Everything you want to know about your job title as a Unix System Administrator. Covers each topic enough to do your job and then some more if you're interested in the underlyings. Practical with some humorous illustrations, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book, but becoming dated Review: This book is a *great* reference tool, especially in the way it covers the pariculars of various Unix versions. Some people might be put off by the authors' biases, but I found it refreshing. The only downside is that the OS versions covered are becoming obsolete. I anxiously await the third edition.
Rating: Summary: It doesn't get any better than this... Review: This is the one book anyone would ever need to reach for when faced with the task of taming UNIX. You couldn't ask for anything more.
Rating: Summary: This is the only book Unix Admins need on the shelf. Review: The Unix System Administration Handbook will be the only Unix book you need to keep on your bookshelf. Get rid of all the other books that only cover certain topics, and get this book. It covers everything from simple procedures to the most complex. It also has sections about policies and mistakes admins usally make. It's an overall great refrence book.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This is a wonderful book for reading for unix. And especially system admin. I wish that they come out with the third edition. I like to see the versions updated. Good reference too.
