Summary: Good graphics resource for video people
Review: This is a well written book filled with useful information about Photoshop and how it directly relates to video editors. It sort of glosses over some important points of interest, but if you are a new editor, this book will get you going in a hurry and with style. As an author, Richard does a great job of presenting the information clearly but some of the more in depth points get a bit less attention that I felt was neccessary.
Overall, one of the most useful books that I've read with respect to the subject matter and by far the most complete graphic reference for video people. A good buy. I give it a 8.5 out of a possible 10.

Summary: Great book for dealing with video related issues in PS
Review: This is not a general purpose Photoshop book. Nor is it meant to be. If you are just trying to learn Photoshop from the ground up or want to know how to use Photoshop for prepress or something, it is probably not the book for you.

However, if you are working in video, whether it is as an editor, compositor, 3D artist, or anyone else whose images will eventually appear on a video or film screen, it is a very good book. Getting images out of Photoshop and on to any type of screen is a very tricky business and the tricks vary depending on what screen you're trying to get the image onto. The wealth of tips and knowledge in this book is great and covers a wide range of common and not so common problems.

I haven't found any other book that covers this range of issues and covers them so well. If you've been using PS and video apps for years there may not be a ton of revelations, but there's enough nuggets to make it an excellent resource.

Summary: Buy this book!
Review: This is the book I've been waiting for since Photoshop 3.0! If you do anything with video and anything with Photoshop...it's the very best guide I've ever seen for merging the two. This has tips and tricks that I've never been able to figure out on my own before, and it will help you -- no matter how good you are (or think you are).

Summary: Best graphics guide for editors!
Review: What an awesome book! There's plenty of practical solutions to real-world problems -- enough to inspire seasoned editors. The focus is on setting up and using Photoshop to create an efficient workflow for getting images out to video, and getting great results. It's not just another collection of razzle-dazzle tricks and effects.

Exercises cover techniques on important concepts: alpha channels, pixel aspect ratios, color correction, importing graphics, testing and exporting to video. The companion DVD contains sample files for step-by-step tutorials, demo/free copies of programs/plug-ins, and 22 additional video tutorials with a wide range of useful projects. Both the book and disc are jam-packed with solid information.

The author assumes you have the basics down with editing, Photoshop, and compositing, and some techniques jump into After Effects or Illustrator. Doesn't matter what you edit with, as one appendix addresses specific programs (FCP, Avid, Boris etc.) and how to integrate Photoshop with them. This book is a must-have in any editor's reference library! It's worth every dime!
