Summary: A+ Certification for Dummies is OK but not the best choice
Review: I just passed both the Core & the DOS/Windows A+ tests. I used this book and others to help me in preparing for the tests. A+ Certification for Dummies is set up in an easy to read, simple to follow format, which I liked. The book gives you alot of information to help you prepare for the core test, but very little information to help you prepare for the DOS/Windows test (compared to the other books I read). If you are super proficent in DOS & Windows 3.1 & 95 than this book would be a good refresher for the test, but if you feel you really need to bone up on your DOS & Windows before the test, then look for another book.

Review: In studying with the A+ Certification for Dummies book, I found some of the information out of date and other information to be false. I would not recommend this book as a primary study guide for A+ Certification. The CD-ROM is very helpful in training for practice questions and I found that extremely useful.

Summary: Good Starter...but doesn't finish first
Review: This was the first A+ book I bought. I read it several times...learned it by heart. Then I took a few of the commerical practice tests included on the CD-ROM and realized I knew very little. With a week before my test I bought a second book and read it. Between the two books I passed the test and I'm certified. This book was a great book to start out with but I recommend getting a second once you're done with this one. The book does focus a lot of test taking skills which is very valuable. Buy this book plus another and you'll get your A+ Certification. Good luck. I recommend the A+ book from Osborne publishing as an addition to this, but don't skip right into the Osborne book.

Summary: I passed A+ by using this book!
Review: The book is very comprehensive and goes into good detail. MANY of the exam questions are covered in this book. I did notice a few errors with some test questions on the CD-ROM and in the book, but if you know that the answers are wrong, then that is a good sign. I like the way the author explains topics and walks you through things. This book was my main study aide and I PASSED the A+!

Review: This book is full of mistakes! I wrote the author and he did admit to many mistakes throughout this book. There is everything from misspelled words to contradicting information. If no-one has a clue about what is right or wrong in this book, they are being mislead.

Summary: Don't use as your only study aid
Review: While this book was a help in some ways, it does lack some information on items from the certification tests. I used this as my only study aid and found a lot of things not covered. After not passing one of the tests by two questions, I then purchased the A+ Cram Exam, which was great. If you are trying to get the certification purchase both, they fill in the holes for each other. I had no problem with the test at all after that.

Review: I read the book in two weeks. I knew the book inside and out,and passed the cd rom tests with high marks. I went to take the real test and failed. There were only about two or three questions on the test that the dummies book covered. I was very dissapointed in the way this book prepared me for the cert. test. The only good thing I can say about the book is that is was fun and easy to read. It also gives you a brief overall knowledge of computer repair.

Review: The book is Excellent. I used it for my A+ Exam and i passed. The organization is good and the objectives of the exam were covered in details. The Dos part in the Dos window is not comprehencsive enough, but all the same it is an Excellent material to study from for the Exam.

Review: I can not give reasons as to why some people have said that there was not enough information in this book to pass the test. I on the other hand gave it a good read through and studied and passed both tests no sweat. I do have knowledge of computers, and have built a few of my own, but with only that knowledge I would have failed BIG TIME. This is an excellent book and if you REALLY read it and study it you will pass the test !!!! But I guess that goes with everything. Don't skip any parts even if you think it is remedial. Ron your the best I am halfway through Network+ and it is even better!!!!!

Summary: A book for the person who is looking to achieve A+ certifica
Review: "A+ Certification" is a comprehensible and detailed technical book on computer repair. The book contains three sections. Section one is "A+ Basics" which contains information on what A+ Certification is, what it does, and benefits of certification. Then it also goes into detail on cost and history behind A+ certification and the amount of time it usually takes on average to prepare for the test. Then it goes into section two "Hardware Configuration" which contains detailed information on computer components such as IRQ settings, DMA channel configuration, Flashing BIOS's, and jumpering perhipeals. This is a detailed book which is very descriptive with many diagrams to back up its comprehension stage. The third section "Networking and Windows" of the test, which covers basic concepts of Networking, Windows Operation, and configuration error codes.

The book is most helpful in preparing you for the real A+ Certification test, by giving you examples of tests and giving you sample test to study with. It is almost guaranteed to pass the test or your money back. This book is helpful for a person, who is going into the computer field and needs certification to be successful. It tells of the work needed to achieve licensing and the jobs that can be obtained once licensed.
